I have been working at ARRIS full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. Great work life balance
    2. Lot of visibility into how things work because of a medium scale of business. Not a behemoth like Apple where you get to touch a very small part of the business.
    3. Decent managers who respect employees.

    Cons

    1. Its tough to change things. If its not your job, getting a response on something will be slow.
    2. Nothing gets implemented overnight, unless the customer is about to cancel an order.
    3. Difficult to rise in the company without spending more than a decade or so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to hire a younger generation, instead of hiring people within the industry repeatedly. The company seems like the average age of an employee is 50 years. Need to hire younger people who will become future leaders.

I have been working at ARRIS full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Freindly working environment, flexible hours and work space, business casual dress code, hiring managers who care about their employees, desire to improve, lot of opportunity!

    Cons

Recent merger has resulted in changes that while not monumental, will take time to adjust, because change is difficult no matter what kind.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work - your support, honesty, and open door is the key to why I'm here.

Current Employee - Technical Support Engineer

I have been working at ARRIS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good team. Great manager. The work is challenging, and not monotonous. Not everyone knows everything about the same customer issues you have to deal with, so working out technical issues is interesting.

    Cons

Training quality for techs isn't good, if you don't have previous cable industry experience... and find someone who has both IT *and* cable industry experience is very difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Offer more training.

I have been working at ARRIS full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The compensation was good well within industry standards.
Company is very understanding of work/life balance. A lot of very smart people in the Beaverton office.
    Layoffs were avoided whenever possible.
The company would look to promote from within when a qualified internal candidate was found.

    Cons

They are strictly suppliers to the cable TV industry so as the needs of the cable companies surge and wane they are vulnerable to the ups and downs of this one industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Expand the business by selling to telcos like Verizon.

I have been working at ARRIS

    Pros

Good management team. We work very hard, but are well rewarded, recognized and appreciated for our efforts. Frequent communication about how we are doing (town halls and staff meetings). Star Award system for people who go above and beyond their normal duties. We have a very good product portfolio with many new cutting edge products coming out. Well positioned for continued growth.

    Cons

Company has grown through acquisition, still working to merge into one common culture. World-wide locations make it challenging to schedule meetings across so many time zones (sometimes we work very long hours to cover all the locations).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to provide frequent feedback to all team members on how we’re currently doing and your vision for the future. Keep working to foster one common culture across ARRIS, but with sufficient freedom to not stifle local creativity.
