Moto Bureaucracy Crushing What's Left of Arris

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMerger has resulted in increased Retail Bottom Line For ARRIS

ConsThe old Moto organization still exists and is jambed with people who do nothing but generate paper and meeting requests to justify their positions. This increased burden is smothering the efficiency that made ARRIS profitable.

Advice to Senior ManagementStand-up for he standards that made ARRIS a success. Pull the Moto organization up to ARRIS standards instead of letting them drag ARRIS down into a bureaucratic mess that doesn't accomplish anything.

    Excellent work life balance.

Supply Chain Manager (Current Employee) Horsham, PA

    Pros1. Great work life balance
    2. Lot of visibility into how things work because of a medium scale of business. Not a behemoth like Apple where you get to touch a very small part of the business.
    3. Decent managers who respect employees.

Cons1. Its tough to change things. If its not your job, getting a response on something will be slow.
    2. Nothing gets implemented overnight, unless the customer is about to cancel an order.
    3. Difficult to rise in the company without spending more than a decade or so.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to hire a younger generation, instead of hiring people within the industry repeatedly. The company seems like the average age of an employee is 50 years. Need to hire younger people who will become future leaders.

    Not so happy

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Beaverton, OR

ProsThere is a good work life balance at this company which is great and a lot of the employees are great.

ConsThere is not an opportunity for career growth here. Also, all decisions must be made at the senior level, giving mid and lower level employees no real authority, and thus lack of motivation.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore transparency and better communication. With the company getting larger, it needs to stop acting like a small startup and more like a larger organization, it needs to empower more members of the organization.

A company not managing transition well.

    Engineer (Current Employee) Horsham, PA

ProsCompany does very well at training employees. The Motorola side of the business had an awesome resource with Motorola University, a lot of which is now moving into ARRIS Academy. Most of the managers support formal classroom training so there are lots of opportunities to improve your skills. ARRIS has some very smart technical people, so if learning technology is a goal for you, finding a mentor is fairly easy.

Employees generally are friendly and the company has a good reputation with most customers. The stated company values are fairly generic and vanilla, but

Benefits are strong, salaries are average but the company has a bonus system tied to overall performance.

ConsToo many of the senior leaders are micro-managers and staff and promote people just like themselves. Entire swaths of the organization are paralyzed because employees don't risk doing anything until approval comes down from above.

Even though the company advertises open positions internally, there is a lot of pressure to for managers to not take internal candidates and poach other departments.

Layoffs shortly after ARRIS purchased Motorola went too far. Work / live balance has really suffered over the past year, and management does a poor job managing priorities and making decisions on what initiatives should be dropped. The old ARRIS bit off more than they could chew gobbling up Motorola and have under-whelmed the integration at every step of the way. A lot of internal systems just don't work well, so expect a lot of manual stuff in whatever position you take.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo some management house cleaning at the Stanzione staff level and one layer down. Get rid of the micro-managers and start empowering the smart people you really have. Offer some people on both sides of the organizations some paid site transfers to speed up the culture integration. Hire a real IT staff and get off of the Microsoft platform.

Still not out of the 80s.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Santa Clara, CA

ProsRight now, is hard to think of any.

ConsMoral could not be lower, compensation could not be lower, benefits are on the low compared to other companies on the area and they offer no perks.

Offices in most locations, are depressing instead of promoting creativity you just want to get out of there, asap.

Management thinks the west coast employees are spoiled and make too much money they don`t deserve.

Advice to Senior ManagementLiving in Suwanee, GA does not cost the same as living in the Bay area. IF you care to keep the little smart people that this company has, you will have to revamp your HR/Facilities department.
