I have been working at ASA College (NY) full-time

    Pros

Autonomy. Full time employees pay $0 towards medical insurance

    Cons

Pay is based on a 40 hour work week and since you are not paid for a 1-hour lunch break that you MUST take, you have to work 9 hours a day (9am-6pm) to receive your full salary. If you work any less than 40 hours/week, your pay will be docked. Only offer 2 weeks of vacation, 5 personal days, and 5 sick days to full time employees. They only pay for 5 federal holidays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more benefits and time-off to full time employees and salary should be based on a 35 hour or 37.5 hour work week like most other employers.

I worked at ASA College (NY) as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Colleagues are great! Christmas party is amusing....

    Cons

If you don't kiss but and laugh at Kufuor's jokes and put up with his sexism and homophobia (He said "in Ghana we take care of homosexuals- we put a few car tires around their torso and set it on fire- problem solved" as he wiped his hands at the tail end of a faculty meeting none the less. I only worked there for a year- maybe things have changed- NOT!

Look at the college catalog- in the schools decades of existence there is not ONE FULL PROFESSOR- that is telling!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of Kufuor and turnover would be lower.

I have been working at ASA College (NY) full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule and a lot of discretion.

    Cons

Some professors give away grades and are too easy on the students. This is possibly encouraged by the administration who is more concerned with retention than student success. As a result the students think all professors give the answers to the exams etc. Technology is mediocre despite the money they charge as a for-profit school.

I have been working at ASA College (NY)

    Pros

I can not think of any...

    Cons

The worse place to work for. There business practice is unethical. They treat the faculty with no respect such as over loading them with classes (10 -12 per semester). You are scheduled to teach 5-6 classes per day. The schedule you to teach at both campuses (Brooklyn and Manhattan) in one day, which takes a toll on a person. They change their policies on a whim to benefit management. The company's culture promotes fear and anxiety, in which they fire someone every semester to set as an example.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is America, Land of the FREE!!! Stop running the school like a plantation.

I have been working at ASA College (NY)

    Pros

Supervisors don't go overboard with teacher observations. Flexible teaching schedules. Most teachers are extremely friendly and warm.

    Cons

Students can be rough, and the school always supports them. The admins will overlook the attendance policy, even if students have missed 60% of class! No pay raises. Rules constantly change, and are usually implemented at the worst times (exam week, end of term).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Part-timers should have more benefits. No rule changes mid semester (i.e. photocopy paper policy), support teachers, help to enforce students' attendance policy instead of the advisors sending emails with ridiculous excuses.

I have been working at ASA College (NY) full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You help people get a college degree. Some of the people that work there are truly nice.

    Cons

This company has absolutely no consideration or appreciation for it's employees. They change the rules any time it suits them. They employ incompetent people in management positions and wonder why things go awry. They practice highly unethical business practices with generous portions of nepotism. This place is run on intimidation and fear. Wages are ridiculously low for the amount of work they ask for. They have no windows in the offices and it is a dank and depressing place to work. No employee incentives which include: bonuses, raises, and a real 401K program. I am so happy I do not work there anymore.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start from scratch you are clueless...oh by the way this is America.
