Ruthless

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at ASDA full-time for more than 3 years

ProsSupport the local economy, rewards good if you have a skill they need.

ConsRuthless redundancies treat people poorly who have given good service. Hopeless online offering. Do they know what a strategy is??!

Advice to Senior ManagementYou can't compete with Aldi so don't aim upwards

– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Not bad

Nights Colleague (Current Employee)
Belfast, Northern Ireland (UK)

I have been working at ASDA part-time for more than a year

ProsManagers leave you alone to get on with the job
Reasonable wage considering zero skills are involved
Very flexible
Can listen to music for 10 hours

ConsBoring (but that's to be expected)
Repetitive (but that's to be expected)
*The staff complain how they act as a robot, but surely what else would nights stock replenishment consist of?

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a break every now and again

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at ASDA part-time

ProsGreat line manager, flexible shifts, good pay, can do as many hours as you wish.

ConsSome colleagues can be rude, can be hard to get holiday over certain periods.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on making sure everyone is equally treated and try and make the process of getting holidays a bit easier.

Not terrible but not amazing

Customer Service Assistant (Current Employee)
Aberdeen, Scotland (UK)

I have been working at ASDA full-time for more than a year

ProsVery flexible as they allow you to work around medical appointments during your contract. It is also hassle-free to swap shifts with another person from your department if you need time off.

ConsLow pay. The customers are often very insulting. Management is constantly in a state of flux and at times it feels as though there is little communication between them. Management do not back up colleagues with issues. Inadequate training is given. Regularly left with less than half the colleagues needed to run a department, there has been days where it has just been myself in a department.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more training for your colleagues so that they are in a better position to do their jobs to a higher standard.
Better communication within your management team so that the colleagues are not receiving mixed messages about what they are supposed to be doing.
Hire more colleagues.

Part Time Student Cashier

Cashier (Former Employee)
Poole, England (UK)

I worked at ASDA part-time for less than a year

ProsFlexible work hours, very friendly, was asked to be santa in the grotto and got a 24 pack of beer for doing it a short notice!

ConsMonotonous, depressing. Have to move home a lot if you want to move up in management.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrain employees to allow them to work in different departments. Being stuck on checkouts week in week out is what drove me to quit. If I could have worked on other departments like sound and video, or homeware or george, it would have changed that day up a bit and broke the monotiny.
