I have been working at ASICS America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Top notch benefits.
     Casual work environment.
     Wonderful people to work with.
     On-site cafeteria.
Terrific employee discounts, free marathon entries, etc.
Great new campus near the Irvine Spectrum.
Lots of opportunities for growth if you have a leader willing to invest in you or if you're self aware and take the initiative to work on your weaknesses.
Outstanding product that you can believe in and be proud of.
     Lots of paid holidays!

    Cons

Vacation time and sick time are separate, rather than being combined PTO.
The office is very, very quiet.
Lack of training and development available for all employees, at all levels. No career pathing.
Most departments run really lean. You'll be expected to work really, really hard and the pay is not competitive for Orange County.
Intense political atmosphere. No transparency- knowledge is hoarded.
No employee handbook. No updated P&P. Makes it hard to know if you're doing the right thing, and easy for you to get into trouble for doing the wrong thing.
It's a Japanese company that does things the Japanese way. It's a rough transition for some.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put leaders through leadership training and teach them how to give direct reports consistent and timely feedback. Pay employees market value for their role. Quit hiring temps for roles that should be budgeted headcount. Re-evaluate how much turnover costs the company and start investing in your people instead of treating them like they're replaceable. Offer your employees a way to give anonymous feedback about company culture.

I have been working at ASICS America

    Pros

Great benefits (inc. medical, dental, vision, disability, strong bonus plan, 401k plan, employee discounts, etc).
Company growing quickly so in constant change mode so you need to be flexible.
People are its best asset - they really hire the best of the best.
Global growth is allowing more opportunity. It is an exciting place to be.

    Cons

Company is too lean. Employees are really pushed to work smart and hard. Management working on getting more heads approved but risk is burnout if not hired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More employee communication at the department level.
    More all hands meetings.
Recognition is key to keep employees incentivized.

I have been working at ASICS America full-time

    Pros

Top notch benefits (health, dental, etc), excellent vacation/holiday/sick leave policy, commuter benefits, and access to merchandise at a deep discount. Great place for sports enthusiasts, as allows employees to enjoy events like Olympics and World Cup or participate in sponsored sporting events. Casual dress code and work environment. Most of the people are great and a friendly vibe.

    Cons

Zero training, professional development, or room for growth. Significant disparities between departments on advancement. Salaries are well below industry and regional averages (but aforementioned benefits help). Crazy office politics in some departments. Young, talented staff are on a practical revolving door because of this - especially women, leaving for greener pastures after obtaining a gold star to put on their resume.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

First, learn how to manage people. Learn their strengths, weaknesses, and give guidance. Help cultivate a culture of excellence and creativity. Look to the Sales department for the best example of good leadership that ASICS has to offer. Communicate with your staff and don't hoard information. Information is power, and an empowered staff can solve problems and perform better. And be honest! Give the constructive criticism staff needs to improve and advance - and if your staff deserves to advance, let them (or just keep losing them).

I have been working at ASICS America full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Because this company is moving at a quick pace you are thrown into the mix and get to experience many different roles not just the one you were hired on to do. You may be required at any point and time to switch gears and work on a totally new project due to deadlines but that is what makes this work environment so fun.

    Cons

The hiring process takes a very long time. If you are hired on as a temp but expect to become permanent, it will take at least twice as long as they say it will.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We need more team meetings within each department. There are some departments that work very well together and understand the teams tasks while other departments are doing their own jobs not understanding about the big picture.

    Pros

The casual attitude was a good reason to work at ASICS.

    Cons

There is far too much independence given to the employees as far as what they are expected to know and do without training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The office culture of ASICS has allowed the company to become far too relaxed in their attitude about getting the job done well.

I have been working at ASICS America full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Managers get very little guidance or training. This is either a plus or a minus. Generally direction is inconsistent, the hiring process is very challenging, and dealing with corporate can be trying. Pay is good, and if you want to be left alone with no input or direction, and you are crazy passionate about running, this is the place for you. The running culture is a huge part of working there and is talked about constantly. Company is growing fast, triple the number of stores from a year ago.

    Cons

No consistency from corporate whatsoever. Things change frequently with little to no direction. Communication is abysmal. POS/ IT system is straight our of the 1990's. Managers are not given great tools to work with. The company is new to running a retail business and it really shows. Allocations are very inconsistent at best. You will be asked for your feedback as to what you need to make money, then be given excuses about why it's not possible. Can't make up their mind if it's an outlet business or not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More structure, better communication, better tools.
