Pros
education institutions do not have cut throat corporate policies, very accommodating. Helps in being a working student with fee benefits etc., that are not possible outside
Cons
No exposure to the corporate world for future move. Little authority, more accountability. Difficult to change mindset of established faculty.
Advice to Senior Management
Would be nice to see research institutes with an eye for applied, or product development flourish with enough support from higher management to the HR for strategic procurement of expertise.
Pros
It is a nobel profession with lot of benefit to society.
The timing of work is not very restrictive as in people can work very late.
Cons
The Low salary is a well known drawback of universities.
THere is a lot of focus on paper writing than commercial applications.
Pros
Nice people are all active. Nice collaboration can be found here. Every scientist is open mind, nice to student. Lunch time seems a circus! You can find a lot of fun in the compus.
Cons
The school is focused on commercialization, including engineering, business, physics, everything. It's a good place to train your active mind and collaboration.
Advice to Senior Management
Nice school, while need more theoretical study. But it seems not to necessary because those are two different type of school between theoretical and industrial oriented institute. Overall, a very special nice place. Giving me different experience. Save me from a permanent head damage...

Cons
Lack of direction. Dwindling state support.
Advice to Senior Management
Better retention
Pros
I thought it was interesting working in a high tech environment (I worked at Decision Theater). I got to use a lot of equipment that is not available anywhere else in Arizona.
Cons
The job can be monotonous, the management was very cruel and did not communicate well. I think the direction of the work for students could use a major overhaul.
Advice to Senior Management
I think you need to get your priorities straight in how you want work to be assigned and when it should be completed. There are no deadlines and no start times for work, and it makes it difficult to know what management wants.
Pros
My supervisor is friendly and approachable. My fellow employees are welcoming, even to someone just entering the system. My fellow employees and supervisor are helpful, and offer both praise and constructive criticism. Performance reviews are not painful, and are interactive between the supervisor and employee versus just being handed down from on high.
Cons
It doesn't quite feel like a real job because we're on campus and working with other students. It is difficult to be overdressed for class but appropriately dressed for work, especially with summer approaching rapidly.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't schedule training on the weekend. If I have to give up a day for training, please don't make it be Saturday when I would much rather (rightly so) be spending time with my family. I understand we need training to be effective, but I am absorbing a lot less if in the back of my mind is what I'm missing out on.
Pros
The active and friendly environement. There was a lot of sofisticated and exciting equipment to work with in the lab. This provides practical experience and allows research employees to meld technical knowledge with practical experiments. Also the projects are funded by large corporations and organizations which gives ample money and long project duration. The pace is also very relaxed and allows for thorough investigation of the topic; many resources are availible for this such as libraries, technical literature, and expereinced staff.
Cons
There were no downsides to working there.
Advice to Senior Management
Advise the students closely on projects. Younger students need guidance during their first steps in the research field.
