Pros
Wages & benefits. Safe work environment.
Cons
Industry jobs are becoming scarce.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep investing in technology.
Pros
Company is at the forefront of technological advancement and leads the mobile broadband revolution. New technology keeps promoting growth and industry stability.
Cons
Since the "new" AT&T was formed there is a concentrated effort to nationalize command and control. This may look good on paper but has stifled customer and employee satisfaction. Leadership promotes front line empowerment but that rarely makes its way to the field because of silo bureaucracies and old mgmt styles dating to the wireline side of the business. Former Mobiilty/Wireless employees have been overlooked for senior mgmt jobs in favor of the "good ole boys." Benefits have dropped considerably as well as some job titles, bonus %, and 401k contributions.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to the employee surveys and LISTEN to what the employees are saying rather than the approach that your word is gospel and the way it shall be. Promote employee satisfaction and reap the benefits of increased productivity and loyalty. You have MANY unhappy employees across the enterprise.
Pros
fun fast paced enviroment friendly decent pay good people for the most part
Cons
having to rely on att customer service to get things done sometimes
Pros
AT&T is a huge credible company and is unlikely to fail or go out of business.
Cons
A lot of unnecessary and complex process specially after the merger to one AT&T which have made everything a lot slower. Too many levels in vertical in management hierarchy which limits the visibility and recognition of the good work.
Pros
The atmosphere was relaxed and there were good benefits and work environment with colleagues who were interested in the new ideas that you were bringing to the table.
Cons
The corporate structure put a lot of breaks on innovation. For example there were restrictions on which open source frameworks could be used. One had to go through approval processes and exceptions.
Advice to Senior Management
Cut the bureaucracy. It's ridiculous to hear you talk about speed and velocity when it takes weeks to approve open source libraries which have become industry standards at other companies.
Pros
Solid company that has been around forever. There is plenty of work and they give you all the tools to succeed.
Cons
There is too much turnover and negativity. I hope that if good performance will get one promoted and better pay.
Advice to Senior Management
I have a good manager. Weed out the people that are negative and those that are unprofessional. We need an undercover boss.
Pros
Pay, coworkers, benefits, job security @ HQ.
Cons
Fear of layoff every quarter. Layoffs yet bragging about record profits. No job advancement in the field due to layoffs every year and major budget cuts. No advancement to management roles due to budget cuts and layoffs. Inability to see their own faults. Adopted the Ma Bell (At&t Co.) style of management since the merger.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop blaming employees on the loss of customers due to your inability to see the real picture. Your lack of being proactive and lack of care towards customers and employees has now started to hurt your profits since the cash cow (iphone) was released to the other carriers.
Pros
Benefits, discounts, little travel, some good people
Cons
Highly political, promotion is not merit-based, audit approach is not standardized, former technitians promoted to management positions without education.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer management classes to people promoted to management positions. Corporate employees cannot be treated as technitians.
Pros
Pay is decent, benefits are okay, they give you a free phone with unlimited everything if you work in a retail location.
Cons
Insurance is the worst I have had since I was first employed at 18, managers change almost every 6 months, there is no room for relationship building and networking to advance your professional career. Even though you do the job of a manager, you will never be looked at for the actual role until you do a sales role first.
Advice to Senior Management
Take more time to carefully interview and select your management team. It is unprofessional for all of the sales staff to outlast 4 managers in the last 2 years, that never should have been hired in the first place.
Pros
Unlimited salary opportunity for hard workers
Cons
Middle management does not communicate well with employees. With extensive travel it is hard to keep a healthy work home balance.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership should take the time to get to know their employees. What motivates them, and what demotivated them, then they could work together as a team.
