Pros
Good Benefits, Pay, Name recognition and Flexibility.
Cons
*Red tape
*Many inefficiencies
*Programs don't talk to each other
*Frustrating processes
*Lack of power for employees to make things right, lack of resources to do so, lack of training to be able to do what we are asked to
Advice to Senior Management
*Learn what your employees are asked to do and make sure that they have the training and resources to do so in a timely and efficient manner
Pros
Great benefits that include great health care plan, dental and vision. Cutting edge technology and global reach. The company owns and operates one of the, if not, the largest telecom infrastructure in the world. Lots of patents and noble prizes have built and continue to support the company's products and services that contribute to its revenue stream.
Cons
Extremely difficult to advance even after proving employee leadership and management skills. Advancement programs are managed at will and not disclosed to employees, it feels like there is a secret society within the company that takes care of only a few. Too much politics and hypocrisy in the ranks. Not a true culture to do the right thing rather what the big boss likes and wants to hear.
Advice to Senior Management
Employees need true leaders that lead by example
Pros
Compensation for middle management and mid to upper level roles was quite competitive
Good company to start of with or to learn the ropes
Good company to use as a stepping stone and to have on your resume as a big name
Cons
If you are innovative or great at problem solving you will be bored here as they are neither innovative nor good at providing long range solutions. The leadership was mediocre and uninspiring and I felt like I worked for a government agency.
In my 4 years there, I never heard the words "Best Practice" discussed on a single call. It didn't feel like they were interested in being the best, they were just interested making money and minimizing exposure. I turned down a promotion opportunity and left the company for a job making less money because I felt like I was losing my edge there.
Advice to Senior Management
You are too big. Time to break up into smaller companies.
Pros
Competitive salary and benefits, numerous locations and job titles to pick from, universal brand name recognition, opportunity for advancement, extensive job-related training provided by AT&T at no cost to employees.
Cons
Preference given to employees who have completed formal education courses at universities and colleges, even though there are many experienced employees who are more qualified for the position.
Advice to Senior Management
I think there is an emphasis now on productivity, which is leading to declining quality and pride in workmanship in general.
Pros
Excellent pay, benefits, and opportunity for advancement
Cons
Overmanaged and some of the managers were incompetent
Advice to Senior Management
Stop Micro managing all people and devote the time to those who need to be managed
Pros
I would have to say that the best reasons to work for AT&T would be:
Good Pay
Good People
Good Benefits
Flexible Hours
Cons
There are a few things that arent that great about working here:
Working later into the evening
Lots of walking
Advice to Senior Management
Try not to show blatant favoritism between employees. Understand that there is variance in month to month sales. Overall it is a pretty decent job.
Pros
The company is associated with the venerable, stoic bell labs and we get to work with cool, new technology that customers like
Cons
No Human Resource representatives that we can call
Have been told that we will be paid $1 more than it takes to keep us as employees
No career pathing or advancement opportunities
No water fountains, we have to pay for coffee
We can not buy our own products that we work hard to make until months after they launch (let alone get complementary versions of them).
It is a large company made up of many mergers
Advice to Senior Management
It takes more than just money and luck to create innovative and useful products for our customers. It also takes the ability to attract and retain talent. Look at any of the top 50 companies on this site to see what they are doing to attract quality and productive employees.
Pros
One of the biggest internet service provides(ISP), one of the largest carriers, and with the possible merging with T-mobile makes AT&T a great company to work for.
Cons
It seems that the pay is OK, but not as great as expected. Also there is no free meals like google.
Pros
Cutting end technology. Fast-paced environment to drive innovation and customer experience. Team driven with great communication from leadership. Career advancement and professional development opportunities.
Cons
Large company so it may result in red tape not found at small companies.
Pros
The company leverages their abundance amount of resources to help employees be more successful. Management does a good job of investing time and energy to give everyone a fair opportunity to make money and be successful. Sales is a performance based job that your effort determines your income level. Those that can do the "whole job" and take care of customers properly will be successful and recognized/rewarded. Great benefits for craft employees and good benefits for management. Because AT&T has union backed employees, this creates issues that affect both sides in how the business should be run vs how it is dictated to run. Large, established company allows for growth in many areas and departments.
Cons
Union. This is a well established company that is old school in how employees are treated. They do not offer an environment that would be seen in start up and dot com type companies that allow a lot of play time during the day. You are expected to work. Some may view that as a negative.
