Pros
Competitive Salary, good benefits and discounts on services
Cons
Huge overload of upper management (4th level and above) causes a big communication gap between executives and workers (1st and 2nd level); economically an upside down triangle
Too much focus on Levels and not enough focus on running the business
Pie in the sky executive decisions that do not make it down to the ranks or cause surplus situations due to poor execution or just plain bad decisionmaking
Inability to make decisions at executve levels and quickly execute in this fast moving industry (too much red tape and accountibilty issues)
Little recognition given to innovators and best talent
Too much political favoritism and too many sycophants (amazing)
The planners are out of touch with the doers
Advice to Senior Management
Get off your high horse, gain some perspective and find out what is really going on in your company. I would like to see you on Undercover Boss. Get down in the trenches and find out what is really going on with the workers in the company, and why so many people are unhappy with the decisionmaking process and the way the business is run. Find the real talent in the company, you would be surprised at how good the people at the bottom of the food chain are, and perhaps you would not be surplusing some of your best talent and dedicated employees to other companies by being "Out of Touch". Look at what the top 50 companies (Facebook #1) are doing right!!!
Pros
Great place to work, all very nice people, smart team, plus all drinks are free and food is subsidized
Cons
super thorough background, drug, reference, work history and other checks prior to employment... definitely not a fast process
Advice to Senior Management
They are pretty awesome so far and everyone is super nice, plus they allow a lot of creative freedom
Pros
Money is fine and a little better then average. Need twenty words but can't say twenty words with out in putting BS to equal more then 20 words. The first 9 words is all that was needed.
Cons
Health Benefits is getting worse by the hour and it changes each day! Management spit while yelling, because it rolls down hill, per there say.
I feel this is unfair treatment because when someone in
management asks us something it has to be then and there like we are
being interrogated each time a question comes out. But if we ask a
question, it is at a leisure time of response.
I heard a comment from a manager one day that the reason CPE exchanges
are not removed from returns because you don't know if the tech did
accurate trouble shooting. So the CPE is held against us because you
are not sure on the technicians ability. But you are positively sure on
the technician ability when it comes to holding an efficiency percentage number against the
technicians.
They heard us like cattle straight to slaughter. One by one they put us down. Why do you think they are hiring every month. One month for Dallas the next for another city, it takes a bit to get cattle across the fields.
Advice to Senior Management
Read the cons - Management believe they are smarter, and that every tech is a liar and cheat. They care for no one. If it was not for getting into U-verse and apple (iPhone) at&t would have been bankrupted with a new name of Comcast or Time Warner (prefer Comcast). When will these large companies believe in there people which will make the first line believe in the consumer (where the money comes from). Many years ago I heard Brian Roberts make a comment that went something like this, " front line people work for the consumer, managers work for the front line people, executives work for the managers, and I work for the executives." As I have said I work for the consumer and my fellow colleagues. The companies I work for are a financial institute that takes money in and then distributes it out. Other-words if I don't make the consumer want to pay for my loyal service to them (consumer), I might not get paid. Where's the loyal service to me, from the managers?
Pros
Active use of new technologies
Cons
Conformance to standards within IT
Advice to Senior Management
nothing really
Pros
Discounts on phone/cell/internet service
Pay is decent
Cons
Not the best morale
Development at lower management levels is lacking
Little to no upward mobility
Pay raises are small percentages/no incentives to go above and beyond
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to push development down to lower levels and ensure employees feel valued. Provide more movement opportunities for lower level managers.
Pros
Benefits are very good at this company.
Pay is good and fair between employees.
There is a base.
Training is adequate.
Cons
There is always the threat of losing the great benefits every contract year.
Sales reps are encouraged to sell to business that cant really afford the payments.
If a bad rep leaves the company, the ones that stay inherit the bad debt and have to make up for it.
You WILL get chargebacks if customers dont pay.
Advice to Senior Management
Dont let dishonest sales reps come in and sell unauthorized advertising to shady business.
Dont make your good reps compensate for these bad sales. Treat the good reps like they are valuable to the company instead of like they are a dime a dozen. Good, honest, hardworking sales people are hard to come by, but anyone can sell.
Pros
benefits, union, pay, days off, vacation
Cons
overtime, union, management, hours, days off
Advice to Senior Management
i would be more active in talking with subordinates, and getting their input.
Pros
Great pay. Good benifits. Good vacation time. If you enjoy working oustide it is ideal. If u enjoy troubleshooting also ideal
Cons
Hard to get time off. Forced weekend work and late hours. Company micromanagement very high. Stress over job very high,
Advice to Senior Management
The company did better when there was less micromanagement. Happy employees equals more productivity and effieciencey which inturn equals happy VERY SATISFIED customers.
Pros
great work life balance
competitive salaries
good benefits/pension
very professional and ethical organization - you can usually feel very proud of working for AT&T
Cons
no significant, formal career progression program.
limited movement/relocation of employees to round out skill set
extremely rigid expense management and customer entertainment policies - to the point of negatively impacting business
Advice to Senior Management
1) Fully integrate acquisitions vs. leaving them as stand alone, partially integrated entities. See Wayport and formerly Sterling as examples.
2) Hire all new advertising/marketing people inside and out. The beating we take in the court of public opinion and the press is hurting the brand. We should be telling the world that we're a completely American company whereas Verizon is almost half owned by British based Vodafone and T-Mobile is owned by German based Deutsche Telekom.
3) Create a broad-based company wide rotation program to encourage personnel to work in various business units in various functions.
Pros
prestigious company will look good on resume. have learned a lot about sales, advertising and other businesses. you know your paycheck will clear the bank.
Cons
massive chargebacks. zero respect for employees. dying industry as nobody uses phone book anymore. overall it is a horrible place to work and i will be leaving soon.
Advice to Senior Management
need to pay your employees more than 260 a week for a base pay or you will continue to dredge the bottom tiers of the workforce.
