I have been working at AT&T full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pays well enough to pay my bills. Thats it. Thats the only good thing i have to say about it. Insurance is crazy expensive. Nearly 150 for a single person. Culture is all show. Some of the most vulgar unprofessional people behind closed doors i've ever worked with.

    Cons

When managers sit you down literally every 5 minutes for a coaching, it feels like that scene in SELMA where Oprah Winfrey is trying to register to vote.

"do you know the preamble?" ..yes sir

"you do know what a preamble is right?" "yes sir, we the people..."

"how many judges in the state of alabama?" ...67 sir

"name them..." *silence* "just as I thought"

-stamps down- (equivalent to heres an email you cant name all 67 judges and write up will happen if it continues)

You literally have to know everything. even stuff you didn't even know you had to know. Everything is always a surprise and a first time is the only time attitude. New managers immediately forget they were reps and have two faces.

Oh and if your sick you will be held accountable for calling out even with a doctors note. Apparently managers arent doctors and have "no way of knowing" if you really are sick. Even if you have a note that has a doctor saying x employee is sick. If you show up sick again they are "not doctors" so you have the choice, stay and be held accountable such as sit downs and discreetly saying youll be fired for lack of performance or call out and be discreetly told youll be fired for attendance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The pay is great but management is a bunch of kids eating glue and stacking blocks and hoping the blocks dont fall down, and if the blocks fall they look to the other kids and hold them accountable.

Alot of managers, this is still their first job. How on earth do you think they will even know how to apply real life retail when they havent been anywhere else. Hire more diverse experienced managers. Promotions are good but if you keep promoting knuckleheads, its only a matter of time until we see circuit city part 2
