Great Pay, Benefits and Stability are the only attractive forces as a Service Rep! You'll hate your job here!

    I worked at AT&T full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great Pay, Benefits: Dental, Vision & Medical, Matching 401K, Tuition Reimbursement. Many employees last there because of the competitive pay and benefits--not so much because they like or love their job.

    Cons

Repetitive work in call centers, great divide with upper management and lower management, poor hours (even break and lunch times) for long periods of time (based on seniority), service reps are rated by: call handle time, adherence to schedule, sales, customer service, customer ratings by call back system, calls transfers, call hold times, etc. Hard to move up in company. If you move up to a Team Manager you go from hourly to salary and are in the office or meetings much more than you were as a service rep and you make less money--doesn't make sense but is true.

    Pros

Great technology, Provides discounts on service. Move potential to anywhere in the country. Union Strong

    Cons

Bottleneck in management in some areas. Old school thought from upper management. Afraid to make changes when necessary to lower management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to move up in the company you have to move to larger areas. Some areas have the same management which can hamper a team.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The company has more career opportunities in Dallas since CEO is in Dallas, however the pay is great as well as benefits. Leadership likes to provide Leadership Development which is both fulfilling and motivating. They also encourage support for many local community and charitable causes.

    Cons

Whenever non-management is due to renew/renegotiate their contract with AT&T via the Union, some management employees are assigned a temporary job, (i.e. cable splicer, technician, repair tech, telephone operator, Uverse technician, etc.) Most of these positions require much training and coursework, however we have to train for these positions during our job!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

AT&T in San Antonio needs to provide some perks like they do in Dallas. It would be nice to have a campus like USAA, were the employee would have access to a gym, restaurant, lounge area with wifi.

    Pros

The environment is fast paced and fluid. You are provided with training that allows you to respond to the constant stream of new applications and processes.

    Cons

As the strategic direction of the business changes, your job can become outdated and no longer of value to the business. It is critical to align your career path accordingly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stability = loyalty to the business. Retrain manager's when their role becomes obsolete.
