Pros
Part of a world class leading technology company. Opens doors to other areas of tech in and outside of the company. You have an opportunity to work with some really talented people and leading edge technology. Given the hostile, proemployer market today, it can be a good thing to be with such an established company considering the job market.
Cons
Typical large corporation mentality. Loss of benefits, moral, and no true adoption of good ideas to better the day to day work lives of employees. Blind, blanket, one-size fits all policies that are truly asinine when applied to some workgroups.
Advice to Senior Management
Step back, look at the smaller pieces, rethink.
Pros
Good place to work and advance if you can follow the rules, work hard, and stay out of the way. I feel that a large part of my advancement so far has been due to solid rule following along with dependable work. The benefits in the past have been good though the medical benefits are taking a strong turn for the worse.
Cons
The amount of rules and regulations imposed by both the company and at times the laws and mandates of a company can be stifling and rather annoying. This is the way it has to be unfortunately due to potential lawsuits that a large company tends to attract.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to be more open as to the why when changes and decisions are made.
Pros
Plenty of vacation and a good work life balance. There are many opportunities available for someone to move laterally within the company
Cons
The compensation is horrible, upward mobility is very limited and morale among the employees is low. Employee attrition would be a lot higher if the job market were better. As the wireless industry matures, it will eventually mirror the old wireline companies....big, slow and over regulated.
Advice to Senior Management
Cost cutting your way to profitability will ultimately ruin the business. Move the HQ away from San Antonio and maybe you'd convice high achieving employees to relocate rather than jump ship and lose valuable resources.
