Pros
Autonomous work environment but the wireline side does not know the wireless business and frequently screws up relationships. Process flows better when wireline sticks to what they know and leave wireless to the professionals.
Cons
T is trying to become one solution for everything. Specialists are not valued for their contribution to the business plan and their is much distrust between peers.
Pros
starting salary was great.
they give you all the tools you need to be one of the top sales rep in the store. when i started working for them they had just started doing a training program that was a month long. They give you all kind of background info on how the company works how the network works. When it comes time to hit the floor you hit the ground running. For a whole year i was the top sales rep in the store i was in.
Cons
Like someone else on here said they have way too many "flavor of the week/month' metrics. little by little they add new items/ service to sell which is great the more you sell the more you make. But you get no kind of training on anything its pretty much up to you to learn everything on your own time (example when the iphone came out no one in my store got any kind of training on it till 6 months after it came out). More on the different "flavors" for one thing they started selling home products (TV, internet and home phone) the big money maker was DSL so they pushed it for months thats all that mattered sell 10 to 15 in a month and your the man, so if you didn't sell it they remind you all the time that you will be "promoted to customer" then one day out the blue someone reminded them that they sell cell phones so the whole DSL fad passed and it doesnt matter anymore. A few months of that and then out the blue oh wait we sell dish network/ directv. now thats the money maker forget cell phones forget DSL its all bout TV now. sell TV and keep your job. after about a year the cycle starts over
Advice to Senior Management
make up your mind. push everything evenly dont focus on one product/ service at a time. towards the end of my time with this company all i herd was att is going to be the one stop shop. this well never happen. go into a store and ask a rep what tech connect is ask them how much a LANDline is they have no clue....att is trying to make money anyway it can..you should try quality over quantity
Pros
Great internal retail consultants, opportunity to work with the public, Mid-level leadership is willing to be flexible, team environment, behavior based trainings, coaching development and personal development strategies, career growth is diverse,
Cons
Work/life balance is horrible; not comparable to other retail environments, pay is not competitive based on other wireless carriers or even within the same market, too many "flavors of the week" focus based metrics, negative reinforcement from senior leadership,
Advice to Senior Management
This pertains directly to senior leadership; hire more RSC's in your retail stores. In order to hit the metrics (CES, FPO, APO, ect) more effectively the RSC's need more time to build value and rapport to close these extra necessities in store. Inventory is also one of our largest roadblocks, we have a difficult time selling devices if we do not have access to them as easily as BestBuy does; we are AT&T and should be able to keep these devices in stock over other dealers or free-form wireless locations (bestbuy, radioshack, walmart, ect...).
Please go back to allowing hard working employees without a Bachelors degree to move up within the company in the market. I feel you may lose some great Managers if they have a ceiling, and cannot move forward with their career if they do not have this degree.
Pros
Benefits, growing industry, competitve compensation.
Cons
lack of freedom to satisfy customers.
Advice to Senior Management
Let customer satisfaction happen.
Pros
AT&T offers job security and a free cell phone paid for by the company. That's it.
Cons
Poor pay. Absolutely no work life balance. Corporate dictates that SSR's have to work every evening and weekend. There was absolutely no flexibility. Your given many of the Assistant Managers duties, but no extra compensation. It's kind of like working for the "woman haters club." At least at this particular location.
Advice to Senior Management
Have some consideration for your employees work life balance. The excuse "it's retail" doesn't cut it. There are many retail locations that still respect their employees work life balance. AT&T does NOTHING to support such a vital aspect of an individuals job.
Pros
decent hourly pay plus commission, free work Smartphone such as an iPhone, Blackberry, Android, etc...., decent medical benefits, decent store contest to motivate sales,
Cons
family life is a non factor, seniority means nothing, scheduling tool hurts the best sales reps schedule request, if you have vacation time, you usely won't be able to take it when you want.
Advice to Senior Management
be more attentive to Sales Reps personal life's needs, family comes first, be more flexible towards schedule request, seniority matters
Pros
Worldwide recognition, employee discounts, good pool of resources and there were some good and intelligent people on all levels. Office location was nice, good park area.
Cons
Moved with all the grace of an aircraft carrier. Politics were the worst I'd experienced anywhere.
If something went wrong, and it always did, it became an emergency "RED JEOPARDY".
Projects would have a kick-off and be described as "already behind" most of the time.
Offices were late 80's/early 90s style cube mazes, with motivation-draining gray walls.
Different branches of the teams would spend more time arguing who owned what and who was responsible for what screw-up than actually doing work.
Advice to Senior Management
The merger not going through was symbolic to me, and made me glad I was no longer there.
I don't think the problems were special to AT&T - just endemic of mega-corps in general.
Pros
Union based employment, Co-workers are very enjoyable
Cons
Metrics are impossible to meet unless you don't take the job seriously. Mantra seems to be sales above service in a service related job. "Pass the buck" related mentality among most employees to meet metrics and not customer needs.
Advice to Senior Management
Realize every call is a human interaction. Most people have multiple questions regarding how their bill/device/plan works. 10 minutes, really?
Pros
Very good benefits, vacation time. Knowledgeable people, good cooperation and work interaction in general. Salaries are reasonable, could be a bit better. We offer a great product to our customers.
Cons
Poor opportunities for career advancement. Even in terms of progression it takes a long tiem to move through the ranks. Forget about advancing to management, little to few opportunities available.,
Pros
Offer great benefits packages, competitive pay.
Cons
No free time available, you have to have a very open availability to be successful. Very high stress level brought on by rapid fire customers, and limited breaks throughout the day.
Advice to Senior Management
Create more versatile positions within the stores.
