Pros
Anyone with any experience can be hired if you are impressive at the interview. At the job fair I went to I met several people with years of experience that were turned down while several people in my training had no degrees and no experiences.
Cons
Big gap of opinions between management and employees even at the store level.
Advice to Senior Management
So far after three months I am very satisfied with management. Even as a new hire they always went to greet me cordially no matter what level they were on.
Pros
Good pay, good benefits, good 401k, great coworkers, good training.
Cons
Union has pros and cons. Unfortunately didn't work in my benefit.
Advice to Senior Management
Interact with customers more often. Better scheduling tool.
Pros
Good pay and benefits with flexible hours
Cons
It's all about what manager you work for! They move the store managers around all the time (every six months-ish) so if you have a good one it doesn't last long if you have a bad one he or she will have enough time to fire those that are not willing to do whatever they want.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote within the company in direct positions... Sales rep to sales supervisor, customer service to customer service manager, don't bring in random untrained underqualified people to run a team of knowledgeable seniored sales reps that have the attitude of a young cocky know it all! It only pushes out your dedicated and quality employees.
Pros
You have the potential to make a lot of money if focus on exploiting, I mean uncovering every "need" of your customers.
Cons
The senior management team is an absolute joke. I have managers in the Natomas Crossing locations who feel it necessary to shop during company time and let the reps handle customer escalations.
Advice to Senior Management
It would be nice if you listened to your employees and not persecute the good ones who help build the product and fire A. Bridgeforth
Pros
Great benefits package. Company has great history.
Cons
Management tells prospective employees that they should expect to earn $100,000 a year when it is impossible under the current selling conditions for someone to earn each half that amount. It's commission sales and since no one wants to buy yellow page ads the commissions are down. But the worst part is that management treats reps horribly - very hard to keep your motivation up when your wallet is light and your boss disrespects you.
Advice to Senior Management
If you treat your employees terribly, they will not support you when you are down. And you are down now. No one thinks yp.com is a good product.
Pros
Unfortunately morale is so low amongst all AT&T Mobility employees that there is nothing positive to say about this company.
Cons
AT&T Mobility WAS an outstanding place to work prior to 2005. They are not at all focused on their employees. Things went downhill the larger the company became. They got rid of anything to make employees comfortable. Incentives-gone, fun atmosphere-gone, employees are not valued at all. $$$ is the bottom line. They laid off nearly 20,000 people when they told the media it would be 12,000.
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management needs to re-focus on employee morale and improving it. If they do not make this a critical focus in 2010, the customer service will continue to degrade. Unhappy employees make unhappy customers. It is not a difficult concept.
Pros
Well known company, good opportunities, good 401k program
Cons
Compensation, Executive awareness and career path
Advice to Senior Management
Hey Northern California Sales Executives: Learn to stop cutting costs where you shouldnt. Try to invest in your people to make a happy working environment. Instead of promoting who you know, promote people who deserve it and work hard for the company. Get off of your high horse and recognize talent. You do a poor job of recognizing your teams...Especially in the indirect channel for mobility. If you have good employees, recognize them with salary increases and promotions! Not a high five. Sorry, but high five's do not pay the bills anymore these days. Instead of worrying about cost cutting measures, worry about your people. When I joined this company, AT&T valued their people by stating "People are our biggest asset", now the saying should change to "People are a dime a dozen!" The NCA VPGM should push his executive team (indirect) to promote from within, and only people that deserve it. Not promote those that are standing around the corner and are handed an opportunity. You will loose your good people.
Pros
unlimited wireless minutes and great sales incentives
Cons
commission structures change constantly for the worse
Advice to Senior Management
stop being so greedy the sales team is the bread and butter of the company
Pros
Being in the technology world will lead to open doors and knowledge in a fast changing environment. The pace is fast and competetive. My peers share information so that we all work cohesively. Everyone cares about our custoomers which will benefit them and the shareholders.
Cons
No advancement opportunities and the pay does not seem competetive. The push by Senior Level Management is to grow the business however the do not seem to take into account the sacrifices that the employees make, both emotionally and financially. The only employees that seem to make "good money" are upper level management and the wireline side of the company. Mobility is the prominent factor to the success of AT&T and the employee should be compensated as such
Advice to Senior Management
Respect individuals and pay accordingly, do not just put on the "back burner"
Pros
Good company to work for. Very reliable and tons of job security with a ton of jobs to choose from. Great people and teams to work with as well. The directors in Northern California are some of the best around and I couldnt be happier to work for them. I question why some of the ARSM's are in their positions though.
Cons
Too many times I see people getting promoted based on who they know "being in the club house", rather than the merits. This is unfortunate as I have seen many people get passed up by others who are not qualified, and that person ends up leaving down the road due to their job performance. Some area managers do not "develop" their people, they only want yes men. There is an ARSM in Northern California that is like this. They should promote outside thinking and not only want "yes men".
Advice to Senior Management
Northern California Senior Management are great people. They are the ones that actually care about recognition and developement. The only feedback I would give is to offer jobs to those who "deserve it", and not give it to those with seniority or who you like more. Encourage growth and reward with promotions.
