Still trying to get a plan.

Human Resources (Former Employee)
Calgary, AB (Canada)

I worked at ATCO Structures & Logistics full-time for more than a year

ProsVery good benefits and nice people. They pay fairly well and say they are trying to attract, develop and keep talent.

ConsNot sure there is a business plan that is shared with everyone. They want "doers" not "thinkers." They want you to take orders and do them with minimal thinking. Some departments have no strategy at all and have no plans to get one. This unfortunately is in conflict with keeping talent as usually the best people want to be part of a focused strategy.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt is tough to get and keep the best and brightest when you appear to not have an overall plan. Get a plan, communicate it and use the talent of your employees to make decisions that affect their jobs.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Not exciting work

Skilled (Former Employee)
Calgary, AB (Canada)

I worked at ATCO Structures & Logistics full-time for more than a year

Pros7-330 shift is nice, protected from cold and rain inside, no forced OT

ConsLow pay, low morale, boring work. If you're an actual tradesmen, stay AWAY! You will have production labourers (with no formal trade experience) barking orders at you, telling you to hurry up. They do the same thing day in day out and expect you to be as fast as them.

(Do NOT start an apprenticeship there. I have heard from HR in other companies that when they see ATCO structures on resumes they tend to toss them out, due to the lack of experience in building anything besides trailers.)

I was laid off with 102 other people (with no warning), while a lazy production labourer who has seniority on me got to keep his job.

And try finding a parking spot if your not 30 minutes early. They jammed 300 people into a tiny parking lot that should hold no more than 200 spots at best.

Advice to Senior Managementabolish the seniority, keep people based on ability. Stop with the feast and famine, ensure steady work and quit hiring more people than you can chew on for a few months.
