Pros
Great technology company! Experts in video/film technology. The HBA of choice in Hollywood! Fantastic place to work as an engineer. Good place to work in Marketing, Finance or Operations.
Cons
They're very tough on sales people. Rapid turnover particularly on the outside. Extremely unrealsitic and unachievable sales targets. Falling incomes and increasing workloads. Very difficult to advance in the organization- they tend to hire from the outside.
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on realistic goals, communicate more effectively within the organization and offer employees a better path for advancement.

They keep saying ATTO is a team, but it's highly segregated
Pros
ATTO develops very cool technology. The host bus adapters, RAID controllers, storage controllers and IP bridges are used in various industries, but primarily in Media and Entertainment. The products are easy to install and easy to diagnose any issues. The products are way ahead of the technology curve. The engineering team at ATTO takes pride in their jobs and the end result reflects this. There are not many companies in WNY who hire engineers, and ATTO has an excellent training program. The turnover for engineers is relatively low. The tenure of the sales and marketing employees is much less, as is typical in technology companies. The employees take it up on themselves to initiate team building events which are non-company sponsored.
Cons
ATTO is a very flat organization with a lack of opportunities for advancement. This can be OK if one prefers a more stable work environment. Communication amongst the departments is weak as is an effective means by which to share information. There is a lack of empowerment amongst the employees due to micromanagement from the executives on down which breeds a 9-5 work ethic. In addition, instead of exploring new ways to do things, many times the response is simply "no." or "because that's the way it's always been done." As with many technology companies, the IT infrastructure needs to be updated and crashes on a regular basis.
Advice to Senior Management
The strategic direction of the organization is very poorly communicated. Employees cannot buy into the vision because they don't understand what that vision is. Put milestones in place that middle management can collaborate to achieve and align the organization with the mission. Set a course and stick with it - don't shift direction every quarter because it isn't working out the way it was intended - analyze, measure and adjust. Trust the employees will do what's right for the company. It is unproductive to have one individual sign every PO, check, etc. which goes out the door. This isn't a start-up company anymore, but in many cases it acts like one.
