Politics galore quick wins dominate culture

    (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

Prosfree lunch, nice location, neat ideas, smart people

Conspolitics galore, self interest running wild, not a lot of fun making money off search in a toolbar that is hard to get rid of. Not real rewarding to fight games in the office and with HQ all the time

Advice to Senior ManagementCut down the barriers and build packages and exits for people that don't encourage just quick wins, find new ways to make money other than toolbars users can't get rid of, hire some real management that cares

New public company that does not understand the market

    Sales (Former Employee)
    Chelmsford, MA

ProsExcellent Benefits - Health and Dental and 401K. Probably the best in the industry.
Excellent people - Will remain in contact with numerous former employees
Good brand recognition - potential customers know about AVG. Above average technology. Has a good/great product.

ConsWith the company recently becoming public, only corporate got to take advantage, no rewards for the employees.
Employees worried about the daily phone calls then building relationships with customers and long term success.
    Little to none career advancement
High turnover rate and managers from the UK/Czech lack the knowledge of the US market

Advice to Senior ManagementThe product has excellent brand recognition, decide whether you want to give the product away or focus on the business market.
Offer Employee stock options to further support employee success.
Work on employee morale and customer satisfaction and have corporate understand the US market.

    Fun, dynamic, high-growth company

    Chief Policy Officer (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

ProsPast-paced, dynamic, interesting work, great leadership. Working on protecting consumers and kids online.

ConsRecently gone public, which limits some of the edginess of the company. Government decisions will have impact and the company continue to innovate quickly.

Advice to Senior ManagementGrow the company faster!!! Great innovation which needs to be showcased more.

guidance and training for the office is coming from flown in british leadership that doesnt know the market

aggressive way of managing, alot of yelling here, degrading remarks

technical support was moved from the US to the UK is sales next?

    Uncertain environment, frequent change

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Chelmsford, MA

ProsBase pay and benefits are good for me and for the role. Office location is nice for people that do not live in the city.

Consuncertain environment in the office. Productivity driven by fear and high goals to earn bonuses. Bonus is very hard to earn and seems not achievabl, no one is getting paid and no change is in sight.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to drive results like a real manager and build team spirit thru something other than fear. People work harder if they understand what they are supposed to do and who they are supposed to be working with.

Lack of direction, care, understanding, and competence.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Chelmsford, MA

ProsBenefit package is good, product has brand awareness with prospects which make conversations easier to have. Getting an interview and getting hired was a breeze.

ConsLack of management understanding of the business, customer, interest in serving the customer, lack of management communication to anyone but direct reports, no accountability amongst management team members. As another reviewed wrote, this business won't last long with this management team.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the customers we have while working to acquire new ones, don't just ignore the ones we have. Gain some knowledge of the security & technology field we serve. Learn how to communicate and boost morale within a team. Hold management team members to high standards & enforce accountability.

Quite a bit of room for improvement.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Chelmsford, MA

ProsSome great people here who really try hard. Excellent feedback on some of the technologies/products compared to larger AV vendors.

ConsGetting anything done can be a real challenge. Morale does not seem to be a primary focus. Overall strategy seems to change frequently. Open cubicle set-up can be very loud/distracting. No privacy.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove communication, follow up on promises made, provide mentorship where needed, encourage those who may be struggling and incent people financially.

    Lacks Management direction and support

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Chelmsford, MA

ProsThe organization has good benefits that dont cost the employees any money on a weekly payroll deduction. That being said there are very high co pays and not the best options. You get what you pay for.

ConsThe Management team is very weak and inexperienced. The technology enjoys good name recognition but there is absolutely no tech support available for the Sales Division. Upper Sales Management hired all of their friends and noone wants to work with the other departments. Very small office and very clicky. Very dysfunctional atmosphere. Dont expect them to be in US very long with this Management team.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecognize that Sales drives revenue and that the US based Tech Support team Management is losing the Company hundreds of thousands in revenue. Treat employees with respect.

A company that is always on the move

    Reseller Management (Former Employee)
    Orlando, FL

ProsThe office relocated from Orlando, FL to Chelmsford, MA so I don't know if these still hold true: Excellent benefits, bonuses (depending on department), casual work environment, free software

ConsThey seem to relocate the office every time someone new is hired for the top position at the North American office. (every 1 to 2 years) It would make more sense for the person hired to relocate than for that person to move the office closer to him. Or maybe they could hire someone that is local to the current office - gee that's an idea.

Advice to Senior ManagementMoving the office often makes the company look unstable and it's not right to force your employees to resign at a time when good jobs are so hard to find. For the sake of the current employees, I hope the company is going to keep the current office open for a long time so they don't get screwed like so many others did.
