I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good salary, great people

    Cons

Lately hires unskilled people who are not subject matter experts. Does not fully value its current staff (skills and knowledge) and forgets that without their involvement and clear communication it will not be the "in" place to work for.

    Advice to Management

Get out a bit more between the staff and listen carefully. Many issues are lost or lost in translation....

I worked at AVG Technologies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Working from home seemed to always be an option for me (not for everyone else and definitely not a guarantee in the future) - PTO and vacation days were granted upon request in my experience and were more than enough

    Cons

    - Examples of good code simply don't exist here, and the current resources are moving in a direction to ensure its non-existence - Communication channels are often tense, unsure of project requirements, or literally have no experience in the fields they occupy - There seem to be very few parts of the process here you would ever want to take elsewhere (branching strategies, agile, scrum, PM communication, etc) because of persistent, unremitting misapplication - Objectively, there was not a single instance the entire time I was employed here in which I felt seniority was a function of talent, past success, or even a basic understanding of the technologies we were using

    Advice to Management

If you are lucky enough to find a dedicated and experienced developer in this area, let him make what improvements he deems appropriate without protest until you find a better way. At that point, discuss with him why you believe it is in fact a better way. If it seems as though you want to create a layer of inexperience to deal with or potential hazard, and he wants to do things in an established or otherwise intelligent way, just let him do it. Keeping your product competitive should always be the concern that trumps all others.

I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great office , some nice perks. Avarage salary, a lot of projects

    Cons

Became a code sweat shop. Since the move to agile, took all the wrong things from agile and didn't introduce any of the good things. Project managers are too strict and there is no good atmosphere around them. Used to be a place that was FUN to come to work to. They ruined it!

    Advice to Management

Invest more in features and understand the mobile world and not only in marketing

    Pros

Chance to meet lots of people with excellent knowledge and experience Good benefits

    Cons

American habits which don´t respect Czech culture and conventions Unreasonable HR sinking all company and its individuality (maybe directed by company leadership) with a typically scenario: "using words "great work, appreciate your work! but...totally doesn´t care about informal aproach just fulfill the quote

    Advice to Management

Maybe some management people should be replaced

    Pros

    Great location. Hardworking employees.

    Cons

Political. Don't look to get credited for your efforts. That's for the person you report to to take. Not a lot of upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Base rewards on what people do. Look at who is actually doing the work. Medium sized company yet you have enterprise size politics.

    Pros

High salaries + good packages for expats Central location Friendly colleagues

    Cons

The turn over is very high, they hire lots of people every 2 years, then they fire a lot every year, then hire again. No chance is given to the people to grow. This is valid for Prague, the people in Brno seem to be more stable, but they also have different packages.

    Advice to Management

Invest in people, train them, mentor them, give them a chance instead of firing them. They can't be all bad.

I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time

    Pros

Flexibility, Ability to work from home if need be, Ability to learn and work without micromanagement. Benefits are great and they do take care of their employees.

    Cons

Workflow is entirely to dynamic. This causes confusion in regards to deadlines, or what you are supposed to be working on. This makes things at times, more stressful than they need to be.

    Advice to Management

Follow through with tasks set, see projects through to completion, focus more on quality than new features. Not allowing projects to run to completion devalues the work that the engineers do.
