    Good Place to Work

Technical Specialist (Current Employee) Plymouth, MI

ProsThere are a lot of very capable people organized into strong teams at AVL. Global cooperation between global locations is also very good.

ConsThere is very often not enough transparency in the workings of upper management. Support from HR and IT, two key departments, can also be improved.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your people

    NEW HR

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Plymouth, MI

ProsGreat work environment and awesome co-workers.

ConsThe HR department lacks work ethics. They are not professional, gossip, and nobody likes them. They will get your fired if they don't like you.

Advice to Senior ManagementFirst HR and hire men to do the job.

Very capable company, but limited by its small size

Project Engineer II (Current Employee) Plymouth, MI

ProsSmall, very competent group of engineers
Management is very easy to access

ConsLimited opportunities for growth. There is one guy at the top here in the US, about 10-15 people below him, and about 200 people below that. The opportunities to move up in the company are very limited.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide a more clear picture of growth opportunities and aid in career growth

Check your ethics at the door

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Plymouth, MI

ProsPay is above market range and they produce a good quality product.

ConsLots of rumors are spread and they are typically started by upper management. The HR department is the last place you would want to go for assistance as they participate in spreading rumors as well.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire a new HR team.

    Just eh.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Plymouth, MI

ProsFriendly co workers, bagels delivered Tuesday and Thursday. Decent salary.

    ConsNo leadership from senior management.
Lack of processes and documentation - everything is done very inefficiency. Think TPS reports.
I've seen several violations of ethics, especially in the HR department. Company officers turn head the other way.
Management has a very "do this job or I'll get someone else" style.

Enjoyable up until a couple years ago

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Plymouth, MI

    ProsEnjoyable work environment
    Coworkers are all good people

    ConsVery little job security
AVL makes sure their employees know that they are an "at will employer" - they can fire you without warning.

I have earned valuable experience in all phases of design and engineering of powertrains and emerging technologies.

Project Engineer (Current Employee) Plymouth, MI

ProsThe wide scope of powertrain projects/clients is very challenging and rewarding to be involved in.

ConsThe work pace is much faster than a typical OEM which can lead to tough to meet deadlines.

Advice to Senior ManagementWe need to improve our business proposals/plan as far as costs are concerned to allow us to win more projects.
