Pros
Exceptional people -- the BEST engineers in the Powertrain engineering community, bar none.
Cons
Business is booming, so everyone is over-worked.
Pros
Pay is above market range and they produce a good quality product.
Cons
Lots of rumors are spread and they are typically started by upper management. The HR department is the last place you would want to go for assistance as they participate in spreading rumors as well.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire a new HR team.
Pros
Friendly co workers, bagels delivered Tuesday and Thursday. Decent salary.
Cons
No leadership from senior management.
Lack of processes and documentation - everything is done very inefficiency. Think TPS reports.
I've seen several violations of ethics, especially in the HR department. Company officers turn head the other way.
Management has a very "do this job or I'll get someone else" style.
Pros
a good place to develop/apply new ideas and learn from projects
Cons
company loyalty, dedication may not be recognized
Advice to Senior Management
innovation can only be generated by dedicated and happy employees
Pros
this company is very innovative, with a focus on getting the job done. not much politicking went on. just focusing on the best end results
Cons
a lot of processes were not in place. we made the processes up as we went along. which was not a bad thing
Pros
Good place to start your career if you want to learn about powertrain systems.
AVL works with all the OEMs, so there is a wealth of knowledge to be gleaned on the latest industry trends.
Cons
Not great for career advancement "nowhere to go"
With some strong leadership, this company could be so much more.
Very poor internal communication of technical knowledge.
Advice to Senior Management
Irrelevant
Pros
Variety of Work constantly changing
Company Pushing Technology front
Technically Sound people
Good Benefits

Reasonable Flexible working arrangements
Cons
Sink or Swim mentality
Finish project A to minimal requirements to move onto project B
Lack of fundamental company direction
Consultant atmosphere promotes time justification
Pros
Enjoyable work environment
Coworkers are all good people
Cons
Very little job security
AVL makes sure their employees know that they are an "at will employer" - they can fire you without warning.
HR department is not what it used to be
Pros
The wide scope of powertrain projects/clients is very challenging and rewarding to be involved in.
Cons
The work pace is much faster than a typical OEM which can lead to tough to meet deadlines.
Advice to Senior Management
We need to improve our business proposals/plan as far as costs are concerned to allow us to win more projects.
Pros
good organazation to arrange the work
Cons
nobody care about your contribution to company
