Pros
One of the first quant equity management firms with great history and talents
Cons
Unclear career growth path and strong internal politics
Pros
Intelligent colleagues
Relaxed environment
Challenging assignments
Balanced work environment for people with children
Nice setting
Used to have great benefits
Cons
No work life balance
Senior Management
Inequitable wages and treatment
Advice to Senior Management
Be honest with staff. Communicate your strategic plan for growth as it is not clear!
Pros
Excellent team of experts in each business area, relatively good salary, freedom to work
Cons
Somewhat uncertainty recently. Benefits offered earlier are diminishing.
Pros
The firm's employees are bright, talented and willing to work together to solve problems. The collegial nature enables everyone a chance to be heard.
Cons
The collegial environment is a double edged sword. Sometimes, things are unnecessarily delayed.
Lack of direction or a clear strategy from senior management for future success.
Advice to Senior Management
The bunker mentality is not helping employee morale. When things are at the worst, you need to be be leading from the front and communicating with the staff.
Pros
Brilliant people
Interesting investment model
Small firm
Cons
Self-interested senior management
Lack of leadership, decision-making or courage in Executive team
Nepotism, cronyism, nationalism
Now part of a huge disorganised AXA company with no culture or moral ethic
Advice to Senior Management
Thanks for destroying a great firm. You should be fired so do us all a favor and leave.
Pros
The firm thrived on the legacy of its founder, Barr Rosenberg, which attracted brilliant people. Its intellectual culture allowed for great personal/work life balance. There are many brilliant people with whom I look forward to work again.
Cons
The senior management from the parent company has systematically seized control of the company through nepotism and nationalism. There was much bitterness between the employees and the management.
It seems as though the conflict has become explosive, and the parent company and the senior management took control of the firm at the expense of its clients. The majority of its asset under management, down 80% from its peak, is presumed to be primarily of the parent company.
There is no future, period.

Cons

Advice to Senior Management
save yourself
Pros
Smart, nice people. Intellectually stimulating environment.
Cons
Weird stuff going on lately. I'm not sure if there will be opportunities available for people to join
Advice to Senior Management
Are you guys thinking through things before writing letters to clients?
Pros
Still has a high number of intelligent people.
Cons
The new management has systematically destroyed its culture which made it a success. After several years of poor performance, the senior management used it an excuse to take over the company through giving promotion to those who came from the parent company, but either denying promotion or laying off people who spoke against the management. The problem lays in the problems in the senior management, not the intelligent people who are trying to make it a better place.
Advice to Senior Management
Eliminate cronyism, nepotism, and racism so prevalent in the work place. Reward people for their work that shows ways to make its business better, not get rid of them. There are cancerous cells in places.
