I have been working at AbbVie full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Large company with opportunities in many fields.
Opportunities to advance IF you play the game.

    Cons

Poor work life balance with a lot of unpaid overtime.
Employees must compensate for shortcomings of vendor and contracting partners.
Promotions based more on connections than merit - very political.
    Incompetent management at departmental level.
    Low salaries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire enough employees to handle workload. Pay more competitive salaries. Rely less on outsourcing or be more selective in choosing outsourcing partners. Learn that culture cannot simply be installed; it must be evolved.

I worked at AbbVie as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

the pay was great and the campus is beautiful

    Cons

very internally competitive, much pressure to make bad results look good; company brings people in for interviews when the job is not really open; worst HR I've ever experienced--lack of follow-through, misinformation, you can be stranded at the airport or hotel because you don't have the information needed. the only thing good about AbbVie, is the pay. Corporate attitude toward CEO misrepresenting education on his CV (no BA or PhD in reality) was "we don't care, he did a good job."--maybe, but his ethics standards are poor and this affects all of AbbVie

    I worked at AbbVie

    Pros

Job is relatively easy. Will always stay busy. Can really see the pros because no one can get past the gate or are allowed to fully know the job because the gate keeper won't allow anyone better than them past.

    Cons

Disconnect with management & supervisor. Co-worker behavior is poor and the negative behavior is acceptable by management. Co-worker talks down to people and send negative emails but nothing is said or done. When it is brought up to management attention they down play the behavior. Jealousy, bitter, hateful, mean & backstabbing people works in certain department within this company. They say change is good and is acceptable. But that is clearly not the case. They are looking for a person who doesn't say anything but "yes sir or ma'am". Management is clueless. Everyone is afraid to say something in fear of the backlash. Open door policy at Abbvie is garbage if you want a job stay to yourself and keep quiet.

I have been working at AbbVie full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Old company with decent pay. Steady employer.
If you screw up - they will still keep you on a lower performance pay but will not take proactive steps to do anything!

    Cons

Dog eat dog world in the Corporate IT world.
Some of the sr. managers have no clue on what they are doing. They are there because of relationships with Directors and so forth. They have no idea on how to manage the team. No long range planning, no insights. With new culture values, seems like everyone is doing their own thing.
    Commercial is better

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You guys really need to cut the red tape, apply some of the culture values to yourself.

I have been working at AbbVie

    Pros

Good for collaborations and research. Satisfying salaries.

    Cons

Weak leadership, distributed work across sites which is not often efficient both from personal and company development perspective , unnecessary trainings, no respect from colleagues/supervisors if no exact experience from study or work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and look at a fragemented culture and work environment.

I have been working at AbbVie full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great products to work on and some very passionate marketing staff. Over the years, patient focus has increased significantly which really helps drive and motivate across the organization.

    Cons

Organization is fragmented and often not aligned to the same goals. There is high amount of individuals that are willing to lie, talk behind backs to create divisions. It can often be a very hostile environment despite all working towards the same goal and for the same company? After working for two other Fortune 500s, this is my first experience of this level of hostility and division between departments. The new behaviors seem to outline the right direction, but there's lack of accountability around these measures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Finding ways to make everyone more accountable for teamwork, even if it includes balancing power could lead to great traction with the behaviors and a better culture. Very negative ratings on the culture survey in years past were met with ambivalence by past senior management. Senior Management vision, often not shared by others within the organization.
