    Incompetent management, with no accountability

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsExcellent compensation and benefits. Can shine with minimal effort if you know whom to impress. Siloed culture and complicated business processes make for a bureaucracy that is easy to hide behind.

ConsExecutive management is out of touch. Sycophantic upper management. Lack of a coherent culture.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnjoy it while it lasts.

Low Growth Commodity Business, Negative and Nasty culture, Blame Based Environment

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere are good and talented people with degrees from top universities; reasonable pay and benefits offered like many big American corporations

ConsInternal culture survey consistently shows very low scores among employees; Some supervisors are very bully and play set up games and negative politics within their groups instead of building a team oriented culture. Individual gain and advancement are far more important than the overall success of the team.

Advice to Senior ManagementScientific innovation and team oriented culture should be your priority.

    Toxic culture at this division

    (Former Employee)

Pros- Abbott financial resources and benefits
    - Some very sincere efforts by some smart, nice, communicative, real people to produce excellent products

ConsIneffective resources to deal with extraordinarily unethical, counterproductive and/or socially toxic practices of a few cancerous people that are affecting the whole company. Many people are afraid to come forward.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a more personal look at culture. Maybe aim higher. Be persistent about change. Communicate.

Hope exists for this division, but the right people need to be in the right places, and the right people need to be resourceful in coming forward.

    Avoid this company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Alameda, CA

ProsCorporate culture is excellent, outside of local division - if a bit over zelous .

ConsThis culture is blame based, seeking to push blame for anything away from them selves. It is the nit-pickers heaven. They will dictate how you write the date on things, and force silly practices that are tedious and will "suck the life out" of any reasonable person.

Departments do not cooperate and some are outright hostile to each other. Procurement is particularly vindictive.

Advice to Senior ManagementHurry up and move the whole thing to the UK and cut the losses! The average employee will never meet the president of the division or any of the VP.s They are a small, insular club.

Company with no respect for work life balance

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    Pros- Nice location
    - Nice cause (help diabetics)
    - Abbott's brand name

Cons- No work life balance (on average people work 9-10 hours a day, in some divisions it is 10-12 hours)
    - Non functional HR, cultural surveys are done only for namesake, no solid actions taken to improve work culture
    - Very wide disparity in salary at the same grade level
    - Easy to get promoted in some divisions and in others, it takes forever
    - Directors with very poor track record of retaining their staff continue to get promoted

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't treat your employees like slaves, let them have work life balance. Give real power to HR so that they can take action against directors who can't retain their staff.

Major Dysfunctional Company - Watch OUT!!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsNone after working around 6-9 months

ConsVery political, Directors very controlling, do not resource marketing, throw many under the bus, department silos - you are litterlally expected to stand at a co-workers office door to get a response. Execpted to work 10-12 hour days. When I started two mamagers quit then tol me it was because of the director

Advice to Senior ManagementThey won't change it is a culture of dysfunction and a raging vortex of indecision

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
