Pros
Abbott pays as good as other pharmaceutical companies, slightly above average. The health and prescription benefits are good. Also includes dental, life, disability and 401k with match.
Cons
No time availability for vacation. Lack of accountability for Program Management. Program Managers have no clue what they're doing and management chooses to ignore this issue.
Advice to Senior Management
Regulatory Affairs management needs to grow a pair!
Pros
Good benefits- healthcare, vacation, maternity/paternity leave
Cons
horrible management- fails to develop their employees
Advice to Senior Management
Take a management class that teaches you how to effectively manage people
Pros
Best benefits I've ever had.
Science and learning are a focus.
Good culture / good people to work with i.e. very intelligent.
I learn something new everyday.
Opportunity for professional development.
Cons
North Chicago
High pressure / fast paced i.e. not a place for the lazy.
Advice to Senior Management
Pass out a few more compliments when people have done a good job. If all people hear are the negatives, it's easy to lose motivation... A simple "thank you" or "good job" go a long way to improve spirits. Those who are encouraged will work harder and take more pride / ownership in their work
Pros
Benefits were decent, understanding co workers
Cons
Management is too political, politics from top management all the way to the employees. The hours were long and the pay was low. Advancement isnt measured by degree or performance but who you know. Backstabbing employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your work force and recognize who the bad players are.
Pros
good business culture
employees have long tenure
Cons
global growing pains
leaders don't always have the big picture
Advice to Senior Management
move faster to take advantage of market opportunities
Pros
-Stable company, salary is reasonable, especially as you move higher up the ladder
-Good work/life balance
-Good benefits
Cons
-Very political company, as you move up the ranks it gets more pronounced. At higher levels it is much more about relationships than quality of work.
-Once you get to a certain level, advancement is not based upon merit or skill, most jobs are never posted and are filled based upon who the hiring manager (or a friend) "knows and likes". this makes it difficult to advance without a strong group of friends in high places.
-Best advice, make as many friends as possible
Advice to Senior Management
The people really making the high level decisions that determine the fate of the company are not going to take general advice from a posting.
Pros
Great pay and benefits, nice people, good work recognized. Well-diversified outside of pharma business.
Cons
Same old environment as with all pharma companies and unless you live at AP your chance for advancement is not good.
Advice to Senior Management
Slow down with the acquisitions at the expense of having to let other employees go and try not to follow with the rest of the pack
Pros
Benefits, work-life balance, salary, and work environment are all above par.
Cons
You have to "know someone" to get in and promotion is sometimes based on that.
Advice to Senior Management
I can't argue too much, but would love to get a promotion myself ;)
Pros
Abbott places a strong emphasis on employee happiness. They have multiple avenues for employees to advance their career, improve their health, and have options for work flexibility in order to meet family commitments.
Cons
The employee base is highly skilled and very qualified in their respective fields. You will be working and competing for the same jobs with highly qualified professionals.
Advice to Senior Management
While the company is growing quickly with new technologies and products, the communication between middle management and employees still needs improvement.
Pros
The company has great the benfeits awesome support network, and they way they treat the people is awsome from a humanstic perpective.
Cons
20 staff managers turn overs in 3 years. The paradigm shifts are crazy; company is great; this plant's infrastruture is bad. they simply cannot seem to get it right at this plant.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention to the culture surveys for any plants that had 70% or lower dissatifaction with management, send key employees familar with Abbott's processes to these sites to see what the hect is going on
