Pros
Abbott seems to be a very stable, conservative company. The company has done a nice job diversifying its portfolio. Abbott is a respected name with customers.
Cons
Most of the cons are due to issues bigger than Abbott. The problems with my job would be similar with most pharmaceutical companies. There is little job security due to changes in healthcare and the poor economy. In addition, the selling environment continues to deteriorate, which leads to little, if any, job satisfaction. Abbott isnt a bad place to work, but selling pharmaceuticals to primary care is not the best place to be in my opinion.
Abbott does have a number of divisions that are appealing, but movement is clogged right now due to downsizing in the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a stand for our promotional rights. Some restrictions placed on product promotion have been best for the consumer, but there are other restrictions that simply arent necessary.
Pros
Realized later that the only good thing was the pay... I am glad I negotiated well at the beginning and then when realized how bad a company it was to work for, I resigned.
Cons
Frequent restructuring; managers treating team members bad; inflexibility in giving time off due to family/leave issues; office politics taking over research...
Advice to Senior Management
The higher management should listen to the employees down in the hierarchy. Many things don't reach the upper management, if it does it reaches in a filtered way, so the upper management does not know what is going on in terms of the problems down there.
Pros
ability to move to other divisions, other states/countries
Cons
People are more than a number
Advice to Senior Management
Get our pre-Abbott titles back!
Pros
1. Great Opportunity
2. Fair compensation
3. Encouraging and supporting senior leaders
4. Tremendous enhancement in learning by the scope of projects provided
Cons
1. Some policies need to be in place for better management
2. Work-Life balance of employees need to be worked upon
3. No recreational facilities
Advice to Senior Management
Balance between Work and personal life is a rising issue in Abbott that needs to be worked upon and provideing some recreational facility (as Abbott has a wonderful campus) and a good canteen would be an added benefit.
Pros
good pay, but lots of hours
Cons
demands for lots of work hours and sometimes at short notice
Advice to Senior Management
better planning and communication
Pros
Great career growth opportunities within the organization.
Cons
Job security is to be desired.
Advice to Senior Management
Must be more innovative and consistent
Pros
Good culture within the company. Good employees and management. Very good in trainings. You will surely learn a lot here. Benefits are competitive as well.
Cons
Very low starting pay especially to those who have no experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Low increase of salary every year.
Advice to Senior Management
I hope they would revise their compensation package because their basic salary would not be much of help to those employees with families.
Pros
Great benefits and very happy employees. Abbott treats its employees very well and there is fairly frequent communications throughout the company keeping people aware of business issues.
Cons
Very specific nature of work and there is a risk of being siloed within a department. Not much exposure beyond one function.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve transparency across the entire business and increase communication from senior management. Focus on culture and improving the way employees interact across divisions.
Pros
Decent Pay, Long commute, ok assignments
Cons
Politically charged atmosphere, incompetent managers
Advice to Senior Management
Get real
Pros
great work life balance. Depending on your team work environment can be very political but if you are lucky and have a great manager then it is awesome place.
Cons
too much politics .
benefits are shrinking.
