If You Don't Mind Leaving Massachusetts, Abbott Labs Could Be Great For You

Senior Manufacturer (Former Employee) Worcester, MA

ProsDon't require education to be respected at Abbott and in fact earlier you commence career and remain with Abbott, better off you will be.

Non base pay benefits exceed many provided by other Massachusetts companies.

    ConsWorcester site:
Tolerant of harassment including physical harassment.
    High turnover rate for Manufacturing.
Rather than mar PR image, employee bullying prominent to reduce Manufacturing staff.
Reduction of Manufacturing staff and overtime to show management's ability to reduce labor costs has caused a cessation in cross training outside the plant hindering career growth for those desiring to move outside the plant environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementMay want to take claims of harassment more seriously.

    adversarial

Territory Manager (Former Employee) Milpitas, CA

ProsLarge company feel, profit sharing is a big benefit, ability to transfer to other divisions

Consquickly assemulates cultures to be the same. Pay for growth, but no support to gain growth. Management seems inept with diferent agenda. More worried about thier power point presentations vs. taking care of business. Hostile relationship with sales and marketing.

Advice to Senior Managementseek advise of field leardership and market participants. those closest to customer have good advice to share.

    What was I thinking?

Sales Representative (Former Employee) Greensboro, NC

ProsOut of office all day. The friends you make during training become lifelong friends. Car allowance.

ConsMICROMANAGEMENT. No future. Never know when you will be let go. No more access in doctors offices. Most doctors do not want you around. Busy work that has nothing to do with selling. Waiting in drug closets for an hour for a signature. Obamacare.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have already killed this career.

    Run away from Abbott !!!

    Diagnostic Technical Manager (Former Employee)

ProsThe last day was so blissful.

ConsManagement culture is so morality reprehensible it will cause you stress that will adversity effect your health. I worked with Abbott for over 20 years. The first 10 were fine. The last 5 were hell. Management only displays the carrot and never the reward. Promotions are granted on the good old boy system of blind loyalty and competent employees are never considered. At this rate the company will be run by a herd of drooling idiots.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell the diagnostic division so the management group will be required to reapply for their jobs.

ProsIt is difficult to be terminated at Abbott

    ConsPoor Leadership
    A general disrespect for contributors
    HR very very poorly ran
No sharing of best practices between divisions

Advice to Senior ManagementMake leadership development your major focus and that will have an impact at every level of your company!

Not a good place for unbiased scientific research

Senior Research Scientist (Former Employee) Abbott Park, IL

ProsRealized later that the only good thing was the pay... I am glad I negotiated well at the beginning and then when realized how bad a company it was to work for, I resigned.

ConsFrequent restructuring; managers treating team members bad; inflexibility in giving time off due to family/leave issues; office politics taking over research...

Advice to Senior ManagementThe higher management should listen to the employees down in the hierarchy. Many things don't reach the upper management, if it does it reaches in a filtered way, so the upper management does not know what is going on in terms of the problems down there.

unfulfilled, lack opportunity to move out of field service position

    Field Service Engineer (Current Employee)

Prosprofit sharing at the end of the year. There are some good people that work here. able to work from home.

ConsLack of opportunities to move out of field service position. Ever changing demands on employees. the adding of work without additional resources.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to promote from within. Stop trying to stretch your workers anymore then they already are. Give employees feedback on why they were not selected for a job.

Upper management is unaware of how inept middle management is and processes are not clear

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood salary and prestige. Very good segment to be in.

Conscustomers come last though customers are the whole point. Processes are not followed and middle management is smart but to scattered --they deal with all problems in a very similar manner blame them on employ performance instead of the real fault unclear proceedures and processes. Old world thinking pressure the employee and keep them under your thumb.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer clear processes for employees to follow and follow-up on whether processes are working within a reasonable time frame. A company culture is very important not just talk but actual culture.

Dishonest, Lack Credibility, HR Dept Worst ever; Ethical Values contradict reality at company

    Business Development Manager (Current Employee)

ProsOverall package above average in industry

ConsHR Dept dishonest and disreputable - employees best interests far from their focus
Reknown in industry for revolving-door-company; people join and soon leave due to company's politics, lack of ethics and treatment from Managers and HR alike
Preach etkical values; practice the exact opposite -disreputable, dishonest, with long chain of unhappy employees within most of their Depts
Worst company I and 5 others within same team have ever worked for between our combined 63 years experience

Advice to Senior ManagementLose your HR Dept - you know what tehy're doing to employees; they know; present employees know - soon those outside the company will know.........
Lose your 'bad' Managers - they should be 'managing' and 'encouraging' and 'supporting' - NOT discriminating or harrassing or criticising

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
