Pros
Good pay, bonus adequate, profit sharing, pension,
Cons
M&A created far too large a sales force with far too few products to promote and too many reps on teams in territories with inadequate pipeline to support the sales force led to 40% reduction in force in 2011. Many tenured highly productive reps at or near pension were let go along with the 900 reps positions that were eliminated, while other non productive less tenured reps were retained. Bell curve was enough to avoid legal actions. Abbotts business is no longer patient or personnel focused, simply the bottom line for upper management and their focus on retaining their hghly overcompensated positions. Dismanagement abounds.
Advice to Senior Management
Nothing the reps would have to say about the real world would be of interest to Miles White, hence the reduction of 40% of the sales force and he retains his over paid postion.
Pros
It is a Fortune 500 company
Cons
Big pharma company and you are just a number there
Advice to Senior Management
Dont buy more than you can chew
Pros
Solid products that benefit patients, Great pay, Great training (continuous), Great benefits. Ability to get promoted based on performance. Rotations through Corporate Headquarters available. Consistent good performance equals nice rewards! As the marketplace continues to evolve, these jobs are becoming scarcer.
Cons
To move from representative level into management, must rotate through Corporate Headquarters at some point, but many areas available in which to do this (operations, marketing, sales training, etc). As in any company, some field managers are better than others. The good news is , if you don't like your manager, sit tight and perform well, as they typically turn over fairly regularly.
Advice to Senior Management
Field travel occasionally in cities other than Chicago, Dallas/Houston, San Francisco, Raleigh, etc.
Seek for more consistency across field management approaches to representatives.
Pros
The benefits and pay for managers is outstanding. The work is rewarding and you can develop lasting skills that are transferable.
Cons
Senior Management is all in for their own careers if you get in the way you are eliminated. They are not interested in anything but making themselves look good
Advice to Senior Management
They should take a long look at some of the senior management and determine if this is what they want the face of Abbott to be.
Pros
Big, stable company with great health insurance benefits.
Cons
The cliched big company with a lot of redundant work. Stuck in your position.
Advice to Senior Management
The company is on auto pilot - only shareholders can sway the management
Pros
Compensation and benefits are good. Company is diversified and healthy financially contributing to overall strength. Abbott has a lot of talented and good people to work with.
Cons
New product pipeline in pharmaceuticals is not good, and communication from Senior Management is not good. While development is good, opportunities for growth and advancement are not. Sales reps and managers spend lots of time on paperwork as opposed to selling products. Additionally, Abbott is very regulated and discourages creativeness and innovation. Motivation & morale are low which has created an environment of mediocrity.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate better to employees on future development and products and allow representatives to spend more time selling, rather than shuffling paperwork which has caused reduction in motivation and productivity.
Pros
Working with senior level and i am proud to work in this mnc company having utilise my skills in a right direction which made me a successful pharmaceutical professional in this department
Cons
Associate not worthy to assist, and interview level very tough for a fresher and i am proud to work in this mnc company having utilise my skills in a right direction which made me a successful pharmaceutical professional in this department

Pros
Ethics is the value that Abbott follows.
Cons
Lots of procedures.
You are a small part of the huge machine.
People are not in the first row of Abbott values.
Pros
Lots of different job duties
Possibilities to grow into other roles
Cons
Integration of information
lack of recognition
Little visibility
If you dont know anyone you will never make success
Affiliates are not well run
Guessing game who will be promoted or not
Advice to Senior Management
Is it a global company or a Us company? Make up your mind
Do not promote yes people to senior management
Capability assessment also on senior management not only friendship
Pros
At the end of the day, I feel that Abbott is a responsible company and tries to do what is right.
Cons
Management tends to overreact in certain situations, and does not do what seems to be sensible. There will always be complaints with management, and Abbott is no different.
Advice to Senior Management
Assess all situations thoroughly, before making any drastic decisions. Take a more active role in understanding the employees, since they are the people who ultimately leads any company towards success.
