    Pros

You are working at one of the premier pharmaceutical companies in the global marketplace. Management does heavily emphasize the work/life balance within departments.

    Cons

Having an acute understanding of where the company is heading growth wise in the next five years, when products don't receive FDA approvals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To have continued conversations on a monthly basis with all employees on overall company goals. This should also include those that are consultants that are aligned to outside vendors if those goals are being met.

I worked at Abbott Labs as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

Found the business to be interesting and learned a lot about it.

    Cons

Managers were very moody and unpredictable: very poor soft skills and managerial skills. Work performed by all team members was criticized on a daily basis. There were too many closed door meetings, arousing suspicions about staffing and other business concerns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Director should be more in touch with unit operations and behavior of managers. Managers should also be coached in importance of work/life situations and how to handle them.

I worked at Abbott Labs as a contractor

    Pros

As an employee of Abbott you get into most of the museums for free.

    Cons

The department that I worked for had a very very VERY poor "training" program.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Better training to incoming employees.

I have been working at Abbott Labs as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

    They offered me a job.

    Cons

My supervisor was 400 miles away in Los Angeles and had no idea what I was doing in San Jose. I was a contractor and he asked me to create corrections, corrective actions, and preventive actions (CAPAs). Four months later I was laid off with no warning or severance pay because HR said only permanent employees could create CAPAs.

The last few weeks I was there, I was assigned a new supervisor who worked in San Jose. When I listed her as a reference, she said she didn't know who I was.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't have supervisors in Los Angeles with employees in San Jose.

I have been working at Abbott Labs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Salary, benefits, and job experience are great. Love the global environment.

    Cons

Too much micromanagement from such an old employee workforce. They care more about when you come in and come out then the quality of your work. Very difficult to move around since you have to wait for someone else to leave their position first. Managers also know each other so if your good with your manager, you may be able to get in another position, if not you're screwed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a step back and relax. Let employees do their jobs and don't knit pick at tiny unimportant things.

I worked at Abbott Labs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good name recognition on CV, solid group of co-workers. Good opportunity to work on global projects or take on extra tasks for personal knowledge.

    Cons

Disfunctional department & upper-level management, with little to zero company investment into employees. Questionable internal finances and huge budget cuts after AbbVie company split. Poor investment and little understanding of what is needed to succeed in emerging markets. Overall I get the feeling they are not doing well in the global market but managed to keep numbers looking good for stockholders... at expense of cutting in the wrong places.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need some new management blood that understands new world markets and drive change. Weed out the bad seeds and invest in new structure. Unfortunately after this last cut I know they laid off an entire dept and kept only the manager. A manager with documented complaints against them. This does not lead me to believe the company will be heading in a better direction any time soon.

    I worked at Abbott Labs

    Pros

Unlike 5 to 10 years ago, there in no realy good reason to work here.

    Cons

Unless you are in the PDP program or someone's pet, there are no promotions.
The only people who get any sort of training are in management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come clean, what is really going on with this company?
