I have been working at Abbott Labs full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    I made some good friends

    Cons

No morals. Management is encouraged to lie and steal. They will look for someone to blame when the make mistakes and they will never give you credit when you save the day. They prefer "yes men" to people that can actually think and perform. If you want to grow look somewhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell your stock and change your names. Its a small world and your reputation precedes you.

I worked at Abbott Labs full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good salary, good benefits, low expectations (maybe a con?).

    Cons

Management suffers from echo chambers that they create. The same ideas get passed around over and over, until nothing else really has a chance for consideration. High performs are burned out. Bobble head managers are often promoted for no apparent reason. The stated values are great, but often ignored by senior leaders, which sets the tone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Chasing the short term dollar at the expense of long term growth is good for your bonus, but bad for the long term outlook of the company.

I have been working at Abbott Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good first job out of college
Get to move all over the country and change jobs
    Great networking opportunity
    Smart people in the program

    Cons

    Work is not very challenging
Role is 100% dependent on assignment manager
8-5 job that can be very slow if in a project role
    Very corporate environment
No real training- thrown into a position and read documents

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Change the corporate environment
Implement a training plan besides reading corporate documents. Have managers who want to share knowledge.
    Make employees stakeholders in projects.

I worked at Abbott Labs for more than 10 years

    Pros

Did have good benifits when, I was forced to leave the company! RIF!

    Cons

Treat people like numbers! You must train on things that don't pertain to the job you perform. It's a waste of time and resources!!
Management/Company Out Sources Jobs this, usually cost more money!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO should step down! The Board should find a new CEO with fresh idea's! While most companies are bringing jobs back to the USA. Abbott is about 15 years behind in their thinking and still Out Sourcing Jobs!

I have been working at Abbott Labs full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Abbott has the best CPS policy. They have given the maximum 7% for the past several years.

    Cons

Management tends to stereotype people into the role that they start at the company with. You find, especially in my department, more thought is given to bring outside candidates in then looking at the talent pool that is currently there. I've seen our DVP's admin's be promoted faster than any other employee. While other's in my group work towards higher education to end up in the same role with even more student loan debt/Tuition Assistance debt. Its definitely a flawed system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no advice. It will take leaving the company to move to the next step. Once I finsih my MBA (two classes away), I will take my education and experience elsewhere.

I worked at Abbott Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good products and great benefits. Ability to move up the chain if determined.

    Cons

Pay Scale. Has the big pharma pay to it. Not rewarded for true performance. Partnership "pods", so who knows who is getting the business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Scale back sales teams. Pay for performance.

I worked at Abbott Labs as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

Co-workers were nice, at least to my face. Work/life balance seems good.

    Cons

Abbott employees see hesitant to question decisions by upper management. Some seem generally scared when you dare question the status quo.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage employees to shake the boat a bit. Allow them to voice opinions in a safe environment without fear.
