I have been working at Abbott Northwestern Hospital (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I found that Abbott Northwestern Hospital have an amazing team of nurses. Friendly staff, wide range of different cultural backgrounds, nurses are well compensated.

    Cons

when you leave or advance your career after working as a nurse, you will not get pay for the sick time that you did not use. You can not donate sick time to a co-worker in need, needs to come out of your PTO. they have an union for RNs and you have to pay union duties.

I have been working at Abbott Northwestern Hospital full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great interdisciplinary patient care teams. Communication between the members of the teams is good and great care is made to make sure the patients receive the best medical care and emotional support.

    Cons

Management makes all of the decisions with limited experience with patient care.
Some managers can be abusive without accountability or consequences.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more willing to hire from the outside instead hiring from the inside. We need fresh ideas.

I have been working at Abbott Northwestern Hospital full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent Staffing. Supports continuing education. Strong Union. Good Wages.

    Cons

Conflict between Union and Hospital at times is stressful. The schedule is never more than two to six weeks out for staff nurses and makes planning impossible. The weather in Mn is frigid.

I have been working at Abbott Northwestern Hospital

    Pros

Top management works hard to engage employees. Some department managers are more competant than others. ANW has not escaped the anxieties of a downturned economy, but does try to solicit ideas from all employees for improved organizational health. Most RNs here are motivated, highly skilled, and supportive of their coworkers.

    Cons

It's slim pickings on extra shifts, and many nurses are in rotating shift part-time positions. Like most places these days, more and more is added to expected charting and it's beginning to feel like work speed-up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work towards minimizing rotating shift positions.
