I have been working at Abbott Point of Care

    Pros

Excellent collaboration and support throughout the organization. Product is well respected and used throughout the healthcare market.

    Cons

Organization is very reactive, has opted out of IDN and GPO agreements and has no real strategy to gain traction in these areas. Product pipeline is weak and specialists are asked to wear many hats. Not sure the ROI for the average rep is sufficient. Sales cycle is very long and one has to focus the attention of 3-4 different departments, work with a usually hostile lab and prove the benefit of changing their processes by implementing the APOC solution. Lots of PI and PM work, which most are not really trained to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop avoiding the hard conversations with the Lab. Develop an IDN strategy and start building some rapport and relationships. Train more on process improvement methodologies and project management skills. Stop being so reactive and develop an LRP.

I worked at Abbott Point of Care as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

You don't have anyone micro managing you.
Company host a lot of charity events and employ workshops.

    Cons

Working with rude and ignorant women who have been with the company for 10, 15, 20 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want your temp employees that you've spent time training to stick around treat them with respect and teach your staff (in my case yourself as well) to be better host. This is your place of employment we (temps) are guest and already feel like outsiders.

I have been working at Abbott Point of Care full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Many employees are agreeable and help each other out. There is little training so making sure you are in with a good group of senior folks is critical to being successful. Really nice people.

    Cons

The company just cant seem to meet any of the timelines to launch new products. It's frustrating to keep going around in circles. Management seems to be blindsided. It's great to talk about the future and another to make it happen. Contractors seem to be used as an economical approach to keeping costs down. These folks work twicw as hard and get little in return.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Accountability is important. Connect with the people.

I have been working at Abbott Point of Care as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Ability to work independently, job parties and collaboration amongst employees and co-workers

    Cons

unappreciated work ethic, unorganized, manager rarely knows what is going on

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keeping on temporary employees instead of using them for temporary assignments only. The economy is hard and being promised a permanent job opportunity is uncalled for and very unprofessional.

    Cons

I have been working at Abbott Point of Care as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Simply put, Abbott POC is a terrific company. The technical work is demanding yet enjoyable, and their talented staff is well-prepared for the challenge.

    Cons

The downsides at Abbott are not consequential. However, like so many companies, the product development timelines are aggressive. Some may see this as a slightly negative attribute, but I see it as an infusion of energy and urgency into one's daily activities.
