I worked at Abbott as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

Abbott is a very organized company and has good values. This is a company that knows what they are doing and has the right mindset to succeed. As an intern I was exposed to the quality function of the business and the message was thoroughly relayed that the quality of the product that was being given to patients was of the utmost importance. The internship was a great experience and I enjoyed tremendously and loved the exposure to the healthcare industry.

    Cons

The types of projects that were given to me were not directly related to my major (Biomedical Engineering) and therefore I found it difficult to become truly passionate about the work.

I worked at Abbott full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Abbott is a stable, well-funded company with great benefits, a generous time off policy and nice cafeteria and fitness facilities. The company is going through a lot of change right now and if you're in the right area and in the right role, it's a great place to build and grow your career.

    Cons

Due to being in a highly regulated business, there's a fairly low tolerance for risk and creativity. Some polices can feel a little "big brotherish" and it can take a long time to work through all the approvals to move forward with new initiatives. For employees who do not live in the northern suburbs or Wisconsin, Abbott's location can make for a difficult commute.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Trust your employees more.

I worked at Abbott full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Resources are good, great training

    Cons

Results are demanded at the cost of the customer. Often following company initiatives get an employees in trouble due to the message sent to the customer. A "Machavellian Society" where everyone wants to take the credit for others efforts. Often people are put in place because who they know or do, not what they know. Management is ready to label a person and falsely offer help to perpetuate their career.

I have been working at Abbott

    Pros

Benefits are really good and employees are well taken care of through competitive benefits and excellent pension plan

    Cons

Financially run company that makes decisions on numbers that do not align with operational objectives. Very risk adverse, behind competition in products/capabilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership is not just providing vision and direction, but having expertise in areas that you lead and, if you don't do to career growth assignments, respecting expertise in your team and providing resources/ support to achieve the objectives
