Pros
Very very flexible schedules, people are generally really nice.
Cons
Pay is minimum wage; They expect you to go above and beyond with basically no incentive.
Advice to Senior Management
This company makes so much money, pay the part-timers a little bit more and you wouldn't have so much turnaround. Also, on an unrelated note, it's pretty dumb that the Management Training Program requires a bachelor degree.
Pros
One of the best descriptions I've heard is that if you 'drink the kool-aid' there is tremendous room for growth. Management looks for candidates that are passionate about the A&F brand and believes in the store experience of Fierce cologne, unique music and trendy lighting. Within a year there is the potential to move from MIT to Store Manager. Within another year there is the possibility to move from Store Manager to International SM, Store-Openings Teams, or District Manager.
Other:
- Benefits package is amongst the best of any company
- Seasonal cash bonuses for sales goals
- Up to 18 days of PTO
Cons
A&F prides itself as an aspirational lifestyle brand. Consequently there is often an 'exclusive' atmosphere among part-time employees and even among the management team. There is an extremely high turnover rate among all employees seemingly on account of poor hiring decisions within stores, uncommon and often undesirable hours for managers, strenuous operational demands for managers, and often a juvenile 'high-school' attitude that emanates from the majority of 17-24 year old part-time employees. Those most likely to succeed are young-at-heart with the ability to motivate adolescents who are sometimes unreliable and independently willed.
Pros
The job itself is relatively easy and most of the time, managers don't really care what you're doing as long as you are greeting most customers at the door. The pay is OK, but don't expect a raise [I've been there for a while and have gotten nothing].
Cons
Most of the people that work here [models, PTI & managers] are so dumb that its ridiculous. There is a lot of employee competition to see who can look the best, hookup with the most people, get the most drunk etc. A lot of dumb wannabee stuff happens. Plus, everything needs to be folded with a board and most employees are too incompetent to do it right.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop judging people on their external appearance and then maybe, you'll actually get some qualified employees who can make your company some money...
Pros
If you like an upbeat environment and outgoing people!
Cons
No raises for part timers. No chance to move up to manager position without 4year degree.
Advice to Senior Management
Choose your MIT's better because there is a lot of turnover and a lot of horrible managers that end up getting fired soon after being hired. Screen your hires better!!!
Pros
The people ere fun to work with, and the discount was great. Flexible schedules and easy going managers made this a great place to work.
Cons
I understand this company is in the fashion industry, however everyone is extremely superficial and hi standards are expected constantly.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep a professional distance between employees and yourself. Even though you may be close in age, realize that you are in a position of authority.
Pros
The people, the experience, the fast pace
Cons
The pay, the customers, the lac of vacation
Advice to Senior Management
Support each other to get better compensation
Pros
The benefits of working for A&F were great. The team I worked with was knowledgeable and everybody was very respectful. Also, being LGBT, it was great to be a part of a company that had so much respect for the LGBT community. The experience was great and the company was wonderful.
Cons
There were times when I'd have to work longer hours than usual and wasn't necessarily allowed to clock those hours. Still, it wasn't so bad because the atmosphere and the people I was around were wonderful. The pay, in comparison to other places with similar jobs, was a bit below average.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work! I think, in all, the company is a great one to work for, but there is a good amount of concern among current employees that they are "stuck" in their positions. Advancement doesn't come around as often as one would hope.
Pros
Friendly environment. Friendly managers. Nice way to start retail experience.
Cons
Discount is low. Lot's of hard work. Pay is too low.
Pros
The coworkers were great to work with. It was nice to be able to wear clothes to work that you would wear on a daily basis.
Cons
Everything is by the book. You could not even move the furniture if the customers would complain about there not being any couches by the fitting rooms.
Pros
Fun people, cool atmosphere, the management definitely knows what they're doing and its interesting to see changes in the trends
Cons
The smell of all of the spray is near nauseating, they have a very shallow hiring process, and a lot of the company policies really do not seem very efficient
