Pros
The benefits of working for A&F were great. The team I worked with was knowledgeable and everybody was very respectful. Also, being LGBT, it was great to be a part of a company that had so much respect for the LGBT community. The experience was great and the company was wonderful.
Cons
There were times when I'd have to work longer hours than usual and wasn't necessarily allowed to clock those hours. Still, it wasn't so bad because the atmosphere and the people I was around were wonderful. The pay, in comparison to other places with similar jobs, was a bit below average.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work! I think, in all, the company is a great one to work for, but there is a good amount of concern among current employees that they are "stuck" in their positions. Advancement doesn't come around as often as one would hope.
Pros
Fun people, cool atmosphere, the management definitely knows what they're doing and its interesting to see changes in the trends
Cons
The smell of all of the spray is near nauseating, they have a very shallow hiring process, and a lot of the company policies really do not seem very efficient
Pros
Discount if you wear the clothes and being able to say that you work/ed at Abercrombie and Fitch.
Cons
The pay is low, there is no respect from management, hours are only given to favorites, impacters have to do the job of model as well, little to no room to be promoted, very superficial ( hire based on look)
Advice to Senior Management
Increase hourly wage because impacters and model at the end of the day are the ones that keep the store going...not managers, have actual training and not 2 useless videos that you watch during "orientation" and hire for more than a pretty face because no one likes an airhead! And train managers better!
Pros
Good benefits, easy responsibilities, laid back if you work with good people, casual dress on a daily basis
Cons
unfair treatment based on relationships & LOOKS, working weekends & nights, shallow hiring process also based on appearance, management plays favorites, high turnover, working holidays
Advice to Senior Management
promote the people who need it, not the people who you think look good in the product. those people are not the best leaders or management material.
Pros
You can freely talk with other fellow workers.
you get clothing discount 15% - 50% based on the price of clothing.
You get a certain amount of break based on how long you work. 15 min. minimum. if you work 5 hrs.
Your pay is charged at an hr and a half, even when you work for one hour BUT ONLY if you work at least 40 hours in one week, and that "bonus" must be in that same week.
Cons
Pay is terrible.
Some managers speak disrespectfully.
You must wear a certain outfit to work and it'll lead you to spend more money. (cause you have to buy it)
You stand while you're folding clothes.
Sometimes there's other workers who slack off and you're working two times harder, but there's no reward for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Give people who work harder than others a pay raise.
Pros
fun, relax atmosphere, you meet great people
Cons
have favorites, no growth unfair
Advice to Senior Management
be more open
Pros
Great compensation, culture, corporate events, and benefits.
Cons
Micro managed from the top down. Free thinking discouraged
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage outside the box thinking
Pros
1. Cross Brand Discount
2. Benifits
3. Promoted easily
4. Some of the kids you work with
5. Very easy
Cons
1. Hours
2. Pay
3. No Holidays off except christmas and thanksgiving
4. People higher than you dont give you constructive criticism, they're just mean.
Advice to Senior Management
If you can find a job with better hours, and pay, then take it. You can't call off when the month is blacked out, and you hardly have any time for your family or a social life. Abercrombie is your life.
Pros
The pros are these:
(You are probably a highschool student if you're an associate, and thus keep in mind you are at the bottom of the totem pole.)
you get awesome discounts
you work with beautiful people
you hang out with these people even outside of work
you get to help people through customer service
you develop an understanding of retail, like color classification, shoplifting prevention, upselling, how to manage stock and inventory, how to organize and display clothing, etc.
Cons
The cons are these:
you most likely will be making minimum wage
the managers have favorites and will give the favorites better hours
no texting! (this could be a pro)
you are eventually pushed into buying their clothes (and you're *almost* required to wear them for the shift) which are expensive because Abercrombie is higher-end for highschoolers
you can only advance from associate if you get a 4-year degree. you then can become an MIT (manager in training) before becoming an assistant manager.
the music is upbeat but loud, making it hard to communicate on the sales floor.
the perfume they spray is strong but you will get used to it.
Advice to Senior Management
Allowing associates to earn small pay raises could help with recruiting. Beautiful people are not always smart people. Giving the associates small projects to work on will keep them from getting bored and it will help you get your list done for the day. by telling the associates what to work toward, you'll get better store scores and we'll be able to impress secret shoppers. tell us the motifs behind all the things we perceive as 'silly,' like 'hey what's going on? welcome to abercrombie!' or the catchphrases we use at the register. if we understand why it's important to use them then we're more likely yo use them when we get secret shopped, and then you'll get higher scores, which makes you look better as management.
Pros
The coworkers were great to work with. It was nice to be able to wear clothes to work that you would wear on a daily basis.
Cons
Everything is by the book. You could not even move the furniture if the customers would complain about there not being any couches by the fitting rooms.
