Pros
i took long breaks without the mangers knowing
time and a half on holidays
Cons
no hours no hours and no hours
Advice to Senior Management
stop hiring people
Pros
It seemed like a fun atmosphere and could be if you made it one. Discounts on clothing were also nice.
Cons
Terrible hours (100 plus a few weeks)
Common Sense didn't seem to exist
Expected to work at least 6 days a week
DM was an unreasonable and never had anything good to say including saying one "kid" was ugly and needed to be fired in front of the "kid"
Advice to Senior Management
Totally understand keeping the imagine up and have no problem with that but a little tact has to be used when dealing with employees. Also, AF needs to work on getting to know DM's, ours was horribly negative.
Pros
Easy role, fun people to work with, able to work as much or as little as you want (at least in my role)
Cons
Terrible pay, no motivation to work, management seemed stuck in a rat race.
Advice to Senior Management
Find a way to motivate your middle managers.
Pros
They're extremely flexible with your schedule. They work around your availabilty and even when you close its not that bad because you have an overnight team that comes in to fold down the store.
Cons
the pay is below average compared to other retail stores. Also, it tends to be like a clique sometimes. Staying in the "look" can eat away at your paychecks, especially if you don't work alot of hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire less people so that the reps you have now can get decent hours.
Pros
Working at A & F is not the worst. Don't get me wrong, the pay is not great... it's actually below average. But at least they work with your availability. I worked there for a year and only once or twice did they schedule me out of my availability and one of those days was Black Friday. If I needed time off I would just put it in the system and they would honor it. The discount was 30% off (i think) but you could not use it on sale items. At the beginning of each season you get 3-4 50% on certain colors. Also, if you close the store you really do not do anything because they have an overnight team and a cleaning crew.
Cons
The pay is below average and they expect you to buy their clothes constantly. Every season they change the colors you can wear so you're constantly having to buy clothes...even if you hate the colors. There was a time when they would make you call in to see if you had to work and you had to call within an hour of the "start" time. This is really annoying because it doesn't allow you to make plans for the day. The managers are constantly pushing the tag line which is ridiculous...most people got annoyed with me saying "Have you tried our great fitting jeans?!" within 3 seconds of them walking in.
Advice to Senior Management
Be realistic. Customers don't want to be harassed. Some even complain to us about it.
Pros
Fun,upbeat and nice employer's and employees and a great experience in the retail world. If your young and want a great experience with friendly employee's that work along side you and a easy but fast-paced work environment with ever changing roles each day,
then this is a great place to start! The club style modern music and college atmosphere make this store a fun and exciting place to work. And there always looking to hire so your chances to get hired are fairly high. To me if you want a great retail experience but the big retail stores seem to be to much for you Abercrombie & Fitch is a great place to start and grow!
Cons
If working part-time shifts can be few because of so many employees and if you don't have a college degree getting a management position is rare. If you don't like people and don't like clothes, folding, organizing, cleaning or handling money and a fast paced environment then this isn't for you!
Advice to Senior Management
More commendation and more shifts
Pros
If you have a bachelors degree and are "easy on the eye's" the company is willing to hire and train you extensively. After 3 months your title changes from "Manager- in - training"to assistant manager. About 5 to 7 months later you become a "store manager". So advancement happens rappidly. The pay differs upon each advancement due to the level and location of the store.
Cons
The pay could be better. You start off with 13.90 an hour and work no less than 45 hours a week.
