I have been working at Abercrombie & Fitch full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Easy to learn, great benefits, many associates so you'll never have to stress no call/no shows, health insurance, movement within company to higher positions

    Cons

Retail hours in general are hard, long training process before you can even be an assistant, doesn't increase pay based on experience

    Advice to Management

Offer competitive pay, allow long-term associates to test out of MIT program

    Pros

If you know what to do and can be self-sustained it is easy. Work with good looking people.

    Cons

Managers can be incompetent. Some managers tend to show too much stress by constantly nagging at employees without the intentions of trying to understand the process of prep, floor sets, or doing usr's and only worrying about time when in fact nagging can delay completion time. Mangers are sometimes hypocritical of the "company rules" depending on their mood or who is working (favoritism). Favoritism is huge. Some "Model's" can get by not doing anything while managers will depend on other associates to complete work. Could go on but overall just poor quality mangers.

    Advice to Management

Put your ego and "I'm a manager" attitude aside and acknowledge a better idea when presented. You're a manger at a teen clothing store that doesn't require a particular college degree to apply for. You're not in high school anymore no matter how hard you try. Grow up.

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch (More than a year)

    Pros

*Views at work are ridiculous, whether you are straight, gay, male, female. *Having employee discount is awesome

    Cons

*Senior management can micro-manage to the point of insanity. *Consumer was always looked on as wrong.

    Advice to Management

Changes are finally being made and it's obvious that since I left, the board has learned that Mike is the problem.

    Pros

-Flexible hours with part-time - Easy work

    Cons

-Discount is usually not as good as the sales/promos and you can't use promos or employee discounts on things already on sale. -Hard to grow in company.

    Advice to Management

I would increase pay above minimum and also not make it a requirement to have a 4 year degree to become a manager.

    Pros

All your associates are good looking, fun to be around people. A lot of different backgrounds and things to talk and bond over. You all really become a family

    Cons

Look policy and store need to be perfect. Many secret shoppers- people disguised as shoppers but really come to make sure your customer service and store is perfect- enter the store.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

An easy job. Nothing was hard, there were lots of rules but they were all comprehensive. The scheduling was clear. Not a career oriented job, but it was good for a summer during college.

    Cons

The scheduling was annoying, as management never allocated enough hours to individuals. This was annoying as you are often pressured into using one of your 50%s to purchase new merchandise. It felt more like a sales ploy than a job considering the lack of motivation in the sales team.

    Advice to Management

Consider motivating employees to promote customer satisfaction and reach sales goals. Also running a leaner team (less people working more hours) would develop your sales team professionally and create a better more driven mentality.
