Pros
Good pay especially with the amount of overtime worked. Good benefits and the employer really does care for his workers. Good vacation time as well.
Cons
long hours, you are finished when you are done with all of your deliveries which in some cases takes from 7 in the morning to 10 at night. Lots of heavy lifting.
Advice to Senior Management
Being forced to work 6 days out of the week gets tiring.
Pros
Most of the people that work there are very nice and helpful. Some people within other departments get the idea that we are all there to do a job and no one is better then anyone else based on what department they work in. Alot of people have the same opinions of Abt, but they need the job so they just grin and bear it.
Cons
If you are not a customer forget about it. They will bend over backwards for a customer but not their employees who do the great jobs for them. And if you are not a high end customer good luck getting your request filled over someone who really does shop there all the time and the money the customer spends shows as well. Their bonus plan actually is just a device to use to benefit them. They actually will make up things in file letters so they do not have to pay out any extra bonuses. Especially with the sales department and with the drivers. It really does not work as a motivation for the employees. It actually works against them because after awhile you don't care about the stupid bonus because no matter how great a job you do the less they care. Also there is way too much drama there. Too many young adults that work there that don't do their job but get all the recognition and are still working there. People that have been there for years and done a really great job, especially sales men/women are getting let go because they might have the high numbers one month compared to another sales person. They don't care what you contribute to their company. They are also very political when it comes to their promotions. The head of their HR department is very one-sided and biased and very unprofessional. They really don't have set policies they make them up as they go along to benefit them and to avoid legal issues as much as possible. So it is hard to know what will be wrong or right as the day progresses. Very uncomfortable to work there.
Advice to Senior Management
If you want happy customers you need happy employees and save the ones who bust their butts for themselves and your company. Too many chiefs with the Abts and not enough Indians. They all have different ways of doing things which makes everything chaotic. Your management is not very supportive. Everyone in management needs to quit being in it for themselves and start working with their employees. Go back to business class and learn the chapters about morals and ethics because there are none going on around there. Also treat every customer the same which will make things smoother in sales and service ,,,etc. If you have a policy stick to it. Say "yes" to every request motto does not always apply so good luck with that. If they keep sticking with employees that they are and getting rid of the hard working and devoted ones, eventually things will start to crumble. You can only blame yourselves.
Pros
Strong bond between employees.
Decent benefits package i.e. insurance, vacation time, employee gym
Cool place to work for the first year or two.
Cons
Ineffective employees are kept around far too long.
No evaluations are ever done.
Promotions and raises seem to be based on chance and luck.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should seek to gain a better understanding of what each employee does and look to cut waste and promote those out performing.
Pros
Friendly people for the most part, good job if you like to talk on the phone
Cons
Phones can get stressful, people can get angry.
Advice to Senior Management
Not much, happy with the level they were involved
Pros
Can learn about high-end products, nice people, willing to share what they know. I liked the employee discount
Cons
It's retail and you can't always take time off when you want to but that's not necessarily a problem with ABT...that's retail and that's why I don't work there any more
Advice to Senior Management
I like that it's a family business and the family seems to care about the business and employees. I felt proud to tell people I worked there.
Pros
You get an OK employee discount.
Cons
To progress in the co, you have to have been there a long time: not based on qualifications. Terrible "bonus" structure. They play favorites. Salary is hardly competitive. They are great to customers but not to the employees. They create a negative and stressful work environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more positive toward the employees and recognize their contributions. Having a bonus that is taken away does not empower the employee to want to do better. Fairness in the department needs to improve. Recognize the positives!
Pros
The bonuses are very generous, discounts are worth it in some cases. Family owned and operated means there is a 'feel good' attitude.
Cons
There is limited growth potential because it is family owned. There is a strict management policy and they run a tight ship.
Advice to Senior Management
Expand to other retail locations and try and offer more opportunities for growth for employees. Expand the market to other cities.
Pros
Good for high school students but no one older than that. They pay better than most retail jobs. They do an excellent job with their customer service.
Cons
Everything is too high school drama and their is not enough room to move up in the company. The hours are flexible but good luck taking time off. They have great customer service but they really need to work on treating their employees with that same respect.
Advice to Senior Management
They tend to have their favorites and if you are not one of the favorites than steer clear.
