I worked at Academy Sports & Outdoors

    Pros

Co workers: Even though I don't work at academy anymore I still keep in touch with the people from my department. The sales associated are what sets academy apart.

    Cons

Management can be poor at times. For example, the store manager made us redo a whole aisle during the busiest part of a Saturday. Managers also had problems working with each other.

I have been working at Academy Sports & Outdoors part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good part-time job for high school or college student.
Plenty of hours that can be worked.

    Cons

Poor management that is power hungry and more worried about control over their employees than achieving goals.
As with most retail the pay is minimal and you will most likely have to work holidays.
There used to be a pretty significant discount but in the two years I worked there it was constantly being reduced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not to be some meticulous and to get caught up on insignificant details. The sales floor can be a stressful environment especially when the store is packed. Managers don't often realize how busy employees have been and will come by and see that the department is a mess and assume that it's the employees fault due to laziness. Jump in and help during busy times and you will be respected more by your employees and in turn they might work harder for you.
