I worked at Academy Sports & Outdoors

    Pros

This job doesn't require alot of skill. Majority of the work consists of making sure the product looks nice and talking to customers.

    Cons

The job can be VERY boring at times, as usually there is only one person working the department on a given week day.

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to develop daily tasks for associates to do, as it will associates find things to do when there isn't anything going on.

    Pros

You get to meet lots of nice employees, who for the most part all work hard to help the store.

    Cons

The pay is lackluster, the hours are bad, and the management structure isn't very stable. You often don't know who to go to with a question. Management never wants to answer questions, they want their senior team leads to for them.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

    Cool product
Other associates understand your pain working for such unreasonable management/expectations
    Hour lunch

    Cons

Hours cut often, even during the busiest of times
    Workload exceeds pay grade
Managers do not communicate with each other here in Belton, Mo, anyway

    Advice to Management

Please please PLEASE communicate with each other. It makes employees' work so much easier and less repetitious when we don't have to do the same tasks over and over because someone wants it done one way and someone else wants it another. There also needs to be some incentive to exceed expectations. I understand that as employees we should expect to do work (duh) but only recognizing our flaws and never acknowleding our successes does not encourage us. That kind of attitude only fuels a lack of desire to do better. When people feel appreciated, they will want to work harder.
