I worked at Acapulco/EL Torito Restaurants full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people at the corporate office are great. Almost everyone is approachable and nice. I miss them. HR has gotten rid of negative employees so everyone is happy.

    Cons

Depends on which department you work for. You might disagree with the vendors your department decided to have a contact with. You might be frustrated that they are a waste of the company's money. But those relationships between the vendor and department manager/president might be because they're friends. You care too much but it doesn't matter. Also, seeing wasteful printing of emails is hella annoying- let them know. But there are recycling bins throughout the office.

    Advice to Management

HR, hire another coordinator to help the many hr managers. The HR rep is so busy and she's so great she deserves the help. All of corporate, be transparent with other departments. Unnecessary frustration with things that are left unsaid when everyone is supposed to work together. It shouldn't be a secret of what everyone's plans and schedules are. Then no one is left surprised.

    Pros

Free meals. Company monthly spending allowance. Decent health benefits including dental, health, and vision.

    Cons

Long hours. Poorly run operation with revolving upper management. No regard for it's employees or how they feel or want in any way shape or form. Company is literally bleeding money & cuts every corner possible.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and store level managers & actually care & follow through.

    Pros

Network: I know half the industry because everyone has worked at Real Mex at some point.

    Cons

Everything. Company is a giant mess. Only a matter of time before it is closed down. Overworked, under-appreciated. Worst professional decision ever to work for Real Mex.

    Advice to Management

    Brands are dead.

    Pros

Management will look out for you and take care of you IF you are doing your job. Young & talented with new ideas.

    Cons

Wages are often not negotiable; hours may not be enough to have this as an only job.

    Advice to Management

Provide more room for growth for employees who excel

    Pros

I loved my co-workers and being in a fast paced environment. Being able to talk to my regulars and enjoy that aspect of my job was great.

    Cons

The management was always all over the place. They were constantly quitting and employees were constantly requesting transfers so non of the prep work ever seemed to get done. Also stock. We were always running out of stocked items because inventory wasn't consistent.

    Advice to Management

I think that of the employees were trained better and if the managment was more consistent then there wouldn't have been as many problems. Also communication, that was terrible.

  8. In 30+ years of experience in the hospitality industry I had never worked for a company with such disorganization and lowest standards for employee care. Numerous improprieties going on here...

    Pros

Good people working for the company... Bad people leading it..!!

    Cons

Having to deal with immediate supervisors that not only can not speak English properly but much less write it, thus causing poor communication between mid level management and upper level

    Advice to Management

Get rid of your COO and everyone he has brought in Get new regionals that speak at the very least "better" English at must be able to write it as well.

    Pros

The company counts on a very efficient management level training program.

    Cons

Lack of motivation towards management and team.

    Advice to Management

Low regards to individual quality time of management team. Sometimes working on their days off and not being compensated.

I worked at Acapulco/EL Torito Restaurants full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people to work with. Their food and produce is made freshly each morning. Great taste of food to sell to restaurant guests. Good locations. Depending on the managers, some are very helpful and want you, as an employee to grow. For waiters, they create incentives to win small prices based on sell.

    Cons

Depending on the management, the restaurant can be at times disorganized on high volume periods. Depending on management, at times the environment can be unprofessional in where managers can create personal bias amongst workers.

    Advice to Management

A more constant supervision on the restaurant managers to ensure there's a professional environment between managers and employees. Other than that, these are great restaurants to learn from and work at.

I worked at Acapulco/EL Torito Restaurants full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Mom and pop mentality of "fix it yourself" gives you more knowledge about the business and how to save money on budget.

    Cons

Senior Management- regional managers that speak little english. They know most of their managers have worked their way up the company from bussers and dishwashers so they treat them like they have no other management opportunities available and work them to death.
