Great experience

Management Consulting Analyst (Former Employee)

I worked at Accenture as an intern

ProsI had a great experience as a summer intern in the management consulting group. I learned a lot about our client's industry, and the fundamentals about management consulting. My manager allows me to participate in all internal team meeting and most meetings with clients . It was a valuable learning experience.

Consworking hour is quite long. But this is common in consulting.

Management Consulting

Management Consulting Manager (Current Employee)
Houston, TX

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 5 years

Pros-Great people that help and support you
-Tons of training and opportunities to learn and gain skills
-Many resources to support you, tons of previous work done and best practices to leverage
-Global firm, so many opportunities to gain multi-cultural, cross geographic experiences
-Major committment to diversity through many ERGs and company policies and practices

Cons-Up or out culture
-Getting promoted requires not only doing high quality client work, but also doing a great deal of "extras"; due to competitiveness and large size of firm, even performing above expectations does not guarantee promotion
-Work life balance can be hard to maintain

More promises than one can afford

Management Consultant (Former Employee)

I worked at Accenture full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat training opportunities and a good starting place for new grads
Breadth of work
True global presence
Very strong in IT consulting

ConsBelow or at average pay with limited promotion opportunities - You either play the game or go else where
Average talent pool is mediocre at best
Re-organization every two years
Huge retention issues because of pay and poor promotion process

Advice to Senior ManagementYou are replacing seasoned employees with new grads at over 50% premium on pay. Why do you think you have a margin problem? Talent is leaving because they don't get rewarded appropriately. At the time of my departure, there was close to 50% of the people started after me. I was there for over 2.5 years. Employee turnover is a problem whether you acknowledge or not. I have received great training and learned a lot, but I have taken my talent to a competitor. With all the investment Accenture has made in me, I am florishing and generating profits at a competitor which has made zero investment. How is that a great HR strategy? Maybe it is because Acceture is a publically traded company... All its strategies are short-sighted.
