Pros
I worked in the Technolgy services end of Accenture which basically provides infrastructure and technical support to their consulting divisions. The best reason to work for Accenture is its reputation- I actually didnt know how well they were respected in the industry at the time but if you leave them having Accenture on your CV is a great door opener. Other than that the best thing about Accenture is the fac tthat they have everything pretty much covered- unless you reach a senior management postion then almost any problem you have they have a solution for.
Cons
Its very regimented- they have a standard operating procedure for pretty much everything, which, from an organisational point of view is excellent, but if you're looking for a place to share idea's and innovate then its not so good as you're job (if you're low level) is pretty much mapped out for you and deviation from that map isnt encouraged or noticed. (might be a good/bad thing depending on your own personality)
Advice to Senior Management
Clarify career pathways for analysts
Pros
People, variety of experience overall
Cons
Hours, over analysis of performance due to performance model
Advice to Senior Management
Keeping people communicated to
Pros
It's a great place to start your career as it has many opportunities to move around various departments when you find an area you are interested in. Promotion within teams are not easily acquired, however you can get promoted by moving accross different teams. There is good opportunity to make a long term career in Accenture. There is also opportunity to gain excellent experience.
Cons
The working hours can sometimes be long, however this depends on the type of work you are doing as well as the culture of your team (some work hard others don't need to). There is little room for rewarding staff for good work/achievements. Also, some teams work are very repetetive and boring. Staff turnover seems a bit high, so you are nearly training in new people at least once every year.
In general I enjoyed working with Accenture, the people were fun and very smart, but I ended up leaving as the salary was quite low compared to what the market was offering. If the salary had remained competitive, I would probably still be working there, as I enjoyed the challenging work environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep a bit of variety in the work and improve the salaries to minimise turnover.
Pros
Potential to work with high profile profile clients on interesting projects. As an analyst who started there out of university, I gained some excellent experience and worked with some very smart and dedicated people. Looks good on a resume and the variety of projects which I worked on meant I never had much trouble securing a job of choice since leaving there.
Cons
Very long hours and travel can get a bit tiresome when you are living out of a suitcase for 10 months of the year
Advice to Senior Management
Try and bring back some of the low value, high profile interesting business consulting projects. There is a huge move towards business process outsourcing and systems integration. Accenture is losing ground as a business consulting house.
