Pros
Within strategy consulting, you'll meet a lot of truly brilliant people who are great to work. The benefits are good, and the perks are awesome if you like to travel--think lots of hotel points, airline points, and flying wherever you please on the weekends.
Cons
Accenture is a huge company with around 300,000 employees. If you find a corporate process or program to be annoying you will be hard pressed to find a solution since it's always "above someone's head."
Advice to Senior Management
Find a way to take responsibility for how you run the business.
Pros
Great people and good managers who care about your personal development. Good internship program with lots of social and professional events with other interns. Very generous pay for interns. Accenture works with you to find good location that's right for you. There is a weekend trip to the Accenture training facility for all interns, which was really fun and a good way to meet other interns and get a feel for what training is really like for full-time employees.
Cons
Internship program doesn't always place you on projects that are close to what you would be doing after graduation. Also, a lot of interns are not given enough assignments so you have to search for something to do to fill your 8 hours every day.
Advice to Senior Management
Reduce amount of red tape and bureaucracy.
Pros
Good for gaining experience. Career advancement is relatively fast compared to industry. You can learn a lot if you make a conscious effort.
Cons
Work-life balance doesn't exist. Travelling can take a lot out of you. By the time you get home on Thurs/Fri, you're completely exhausted. Depending on the project, you do get some time to explore the city you're in and have a good time, but that's the exception, not the rule. Salaries are terrible compared to the industry. To get promoted, it's not always how good of a job you do, but who you know. Accenture resources are bright and hardworking, but lack technical skills. Sometimes you will find that you have to pick up the slack for the less technically gifted.
Advice to Senior Management
Accenture is all about the people. They are your product. Invest more in keeping them happy.
Pros
Great job and opportunities at Accenture.
Cons
Work life balance could be better.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to employees.
Pros
Lots of good people, good leadership, variety of work. If you don't like what you're doing, stick around and it will change. As an added bonus -- lots of fun networking events.
Cons
Pay is not as good as other companies.
Advice to Senior Management
None
Pros
Flexibility - a progressive company that understands the value of flexible work schedules.
Diversity - there is a wide range of opportunities available. You can take your career in a completely different direction while staying with the same company. You can change relocate to another region in the world and remain with the company.
Training - Accenture does an exceptional job of providing a robust training curriculum, much of it that can be done virtually at your own pace.
Cons
Virtual environments can be very difficult to adjust to. Feeling connected to the work becomes very much a personal responsibility.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to focus on breaking down silos between workforces.
Pros
Flexible, good work/life balance. Opportunities for travel.
Cons
Hit or miss leadership. In my 10 years, I had two decent levels of leadership and probably 4-5 poor to very poor leaders. Not secure. The entire final five years of my employment were under a cloud of offshoring and layoffs. Ultamately, I chose to leave rather than be constantly concerned about my employment.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend more time teaching your mid-level managers how to lead, and press for technical competence at that level. Too many mid-level managers give up their functional expertise for people / process skills. To some extent this is necessary, but not completely.
Pros
due to the natual of consultant world, i was giving enviorments that will force me to make changes for specific situation.
Cons
projects partners was given too much of power and they don't always follow the Accenture rules. They are running the project as their own business. They don't care about the retention rate of their employee. If they lost 10 they will get 10 right away. Balance work and life are only for promotions but not for real work enviorements.
Advice to Senior Management
Please learn the project management skills and must have SDLC experience in order to lead the project.
Pros
great variety of industry experience can be earned at accenture which is valued outside of accenture a lot
Cons
The travel associated with the consulting job could be challenging, effects the work life balance
Advice to Senior Management
Be more flexible
