The most technologist-friendly consulting company but still plenty of politics

I worked at Accenture full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Disclaimer: I am a pure technologist, and never expected to end up in a place like Accenture. But somehow I did.
They have a couple of places where technologists can flourish: Accenture Labs, Architecture Innovation (where I was recruited) and Big Data practices, Accenture Cloud Services. They also have Expert Career Model (ECM) which (to a degree) insulates people like me from the pressures of traditional consulting.

    Cons

On the negative side there are things associated with traditional consulting companies: lots of politics, focus on here and now, need to appease clients trumping everything else. Also although ECM does creates a technology career path (in theory) the chance of promotion is negligible compared to the regular sell & deliver track.

    Pros

Great place to work, you can explore various opportunities and build a career, managment is helpful and great value addition on resume.

    Cons

Your rating depends on representation more than your performance, and laddering makes it difficult for high performersto grow at good rate.
    Low salary hike.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the rating and upraisal process and value long term accenture employees than just bringing laterals for most of leadership roles

    Pros

This career was the longest relationship of my life.
Great foundation in business for new college graduate.
    Good pay, benefits, training.
I learned a lot in the time I was there.

    Cons

Travel can be difficult. Experienced hires can have a tough time integrating.
After a dozen years, I had a tough time steering my career in a direction of my choosing. Also, as I became more senior, I felt my gender (woman) was a hurdle. (Although, to be fair, I think this may be true anywhere.)

I worked at Accenture full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Accenture is a great place to work and meet and learn from the best in consulting and or finance. Employees get to work from home 3 to 4 days a week.

    Cons

Unfortunately Accenture has transitioned so many roles/positions overseas to lower cost countries. They are the leaders in outsourcing so you maybe taking a risk if you take a role here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop transitioning American jobs overseas to lower cost countries. Too many in the US, specifically Chicago, have lost their jobs due to Accenture thinking of the bottom line first and foremost.
