Pros
- Awesome people, most analysts and consultants are young and smart. Since projects and teams change so frequently, consultants harbor a friendly and social attitude. Plus they love to party.
- Very high profile clients - fortune 500's to huge government agencies
- Brand name that's recognized world wide
Cons
- Can have very little say in the type of work you want to do - it has to be an extremely proactive push on your part to switch projects/industries. Be careful about stepping on toes.
- Hours can be long depending on project nature. As with all consulting no project ever goes smoothly
- You can be stuck on an undesirable project for the duration of your stay at Accenture due to your expertise on it. Management won't want you to leave for a new project because that would mean ramping up someone completely new - which is a high price to pay.
- Some managers can be inexperienced and incompetent. People who can empathize with the ones they manage can be hard to come by.
This is a 200k+ person company - in the end you're just a number. Senior management tends not to develop close ties with junior members, as they're more focused on maintaining $$$ (aka client relationships) - if you notice way too many long nights/weekends followed by empty 'Thank you for your hard work' speeches...its a red flag.
- Meritocracy, or should I say lack thereof. In high pressure corporate structures like consulting and banking, its all about who you know. I worked my a** off only to be marginalized by smooth talkers and schmoozers. The quality of the work you do is only half the equation. The other half is getting your name out there and being recognized. If only they told me this during training (sigh)
- Touching upon the last bullet - don't be complacent with your career here - if you notice things are necessarily going in your favor (after you've pulled all stops), then get out.
Leveraging the Accenture name to jump from one company to another is a GREAT way to get TITLE and huge SALARY increases.
Advice to Senior Management
Good management is based on the understanding that one leads from behind, not micromanaging or being overly critical. Be smart about it. Managers should be as accountable to keeping their juniors happy, as their superiors.
Pros
Great opportunities to interact with leadership
Industry-leading clients
Intelligent, practical people
Cons
No respect for work life balance (if you want to get promoted)
Lack of transparency
Your future is dependent upon who you know
Lots of tedious work before work gets interesting
Advice to Senior Management
If Accenture truly wants to be about work life balance, then leadership needs to demonstrate work life balance. Accenture is great at "talking the talk, but not walking the walk"
Pros
Great Place to work and growth.
Cons
Project assignment takes time and its hard to find good project sometime.
Advice to Senior Management
Time Mgmt,
Pros
Global leader, wide range of industries, great challenges, great people.
Cons
Travelling and being away 4 days a week, work/life balance.
Pros
If you have drive and good understanding of the business, you can get the experience you want out of it (in reasonable control). There are others that don't get the game and are just not realistic about how the business is run. The best reason to be here though is to learn what you can and get appreciated for good work.
Cons
Bad luck of management on your team and inability work through your problems with senior management can cause you hell. It is a people company and you can get screwed if you form the wrong relationships. That said, it's still better than normal corporate companies where you're stuck period with no way out. If you play the Accenture game right... you'll eventually find your way if you do the work.
Advice to Senior Management
Some management undermine the new initiatives and strategies being put in place. Senior people attempt to game the system. It's very human nature, but you're supposed to be more mature than that, especially as role models to your resources
Pros
Great brand name, With Accenture you get to work with the best companies in the world, value for the money
Cons
challenging environment, frequent travel, less opportunity to move across streams
Advice to Senior Management
look to grow internal members for next positions
Pros
Get a chance work with consulting partners
Great place to build your experience
Good opportunities
Great environment for new joiners
Cons
Senior Management is not very competent
Performance Management process at times sucks (as usual)
Salaries not at par with the industry for exp folks
Pros
Overall - very good people to work with. Professional and likable. Not required to travel. Clients - major industry players.
Cons
Low pay compare to industry. Difficult to switch to other technologies because it is difficult to learn other technologies while constantly on a project. Most of the time technologically projects are not very challenging. Mostly IT routine. Lots of routine tasks required to complete by clients.
Advice to Senior Management
.
Pros
Smart people and great work ethic
Cons
Longer hours and lack of recongnition
Advice to Senior Management
Think of the people more
Pros
- Great salary
- Great people
- Ability to travel (if you like)
- Work on any part in deployment
Cons
- Get typcasted: Once you do one role in test, your basically in testing
- Promotions are who you know versus all on performance
- Increase in pay is slow and not competitive
Advice to Senior Management
The company is growing a lot which is good but forces people to work on projects that they don't like. Need to reorganize and make people enjoy their work again
