I have been working at Accenture full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Highly process-focused, matrixed and hierarchical organization built on respected principals and deep capabilities across virtually every area of service and country on the globe.

    Cons

Continuous focus on and expectation around individual and team high performance translates to long, intense hours (often short-handed) and focus on quarterly earnings to meet sales and margin targets. Personal and operational goals don't always translate to advancement and there is an unwritten understanding of '5 years up or out' to partner if you are an experienced hire. The 'laddering' process (ranking of peers within a practice) can be subjective and there are limits to upward mobility beyond the senior manager level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tougher 'people developer' standards are needed for senior practice leadership (managing directors and above) and alternative opportunities for advancement, in general, other than subject matter specialist track. Otherwise, the organization will continue to bleed talent.

I have been working at Accenture full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You can easily get lost in the shuffle at such a large company. Your career is yours to make. Get in, find what you want to do, meet the people who do that and carve out a name for yourself for a rewarding career.

    Cons

Expectations and work/life balance can vary greatly depending on the project.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so afraid of Wall Street that you forget to take care of your own people. Too much pressure on selling and delivery and not on quality. Other consulting firms focus on quality and people better.

I worked at Accenture full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

For a large company, fairly nimble. World wide exposure, work opportunities are endless. They did a good job of communication of employee core values and related HR training.

    Cons

I worked under a company that was purchased by Accenture, an Independent Software Vendor (ISV). As a software company it wasn't for me. Accenture's core focus is value added services, not long term in depth knowledge required as an ISV. I considered moving from my position to general consulting, since I do think it would have been a great opportunity, but decided to stick to my core competency.
My areas leadership was poor at best, but greater Accenture leadership seemed great, good office professional detached culture, and great HR policies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management if you purchase ISV, treat them as separate units. Let them compete in any arena that promotes the ISV to advance and make Accenture services a competitive option, but not the only option. A captive ISV cannot grow as everyone sees it for what it is, a way to lock-in all aspects .
An ISV with latitude to be a 'independent' ISV with the expertise and financial backing I believe would do well in the enterprise.
