Advice to Senior Management
Please learn how to manage and do no underestimate project scope!
Pros
1. Resume boosting brand recognition... "great place to start you career" according to some magazines
2. Lots of online training available - you get to choose which courses and classes you want to take
3. Core Analyst School is fun. You meet other Accenture employees from around the world in for a 2 week party-fest (or at least that's the way it was back in 2007).
Cons
1. Many unhappy workers - for some reason, lots of Accenture employees are unhappy. Maybe it is a mis-fit with the consulting lifestyle or maybe it is the sacrifices that they request of you or even the way they use competitiveness and performance ratings to get more work out of you.
2. Poor compensation. As with most places, people generally are not thrilled with their pay.
Advice to Senior Management
More concern with employees happiness.
Pros
Very collaborative culture. People are recognized for what they know and what they can contribute. Accenture highly regards balance of personal and professional lives. One is rarely questioned for asking to take time off or work from home. People from all over the globe easily work well together - Accenture culture supercedes geographical/cultural differences.
Cons
Poor at giving constructive feedback on a timely basis. Poor at helping manage your career. Often times at the higher levels, you are left to fend for yourself. How well you do in your career is often dependent on who you know and what kind of clout they have.
Advice to Senior Management
Better performance feedback, prospective on next promotion, and honest feedback on how one ranks compared to peers.
Pros
The pay is very reasonable. They offer great benefits for medical, dental, and vision. Accenture has clear defined criteria for talent they hire. Great group to work with. Most Co-workers always ready to assist. Accenture has been good at challenging me to do more, learn more, and explore skills that I wouldn't otherwise use. Accenture Consulting has a very young workforce with most analyst positions filled by new grads. Even many at the Consultant and Manager level are 20 somethings. Young = fun, with lots of opportunities for happy hours and the like. Project Format - Every project has a beginning and an end, with a specific objective.
Cons
Long hours of work often times interferes with personal pursuits outside of work. There are ways to alter my personal schedule though. Its not every day that I have to adjust. The amount of hours worked varies week to week. Another thing I want to say is there are many young, ambitious, and smart young people working there. Well, there is nothing wrong with that. But I do think they need to be tested and get more mature (I mean people skills) before putting them in charge of projects. Working in Accenture is like you are living and working in the Neverland, where you found you are surrounded by kids, yeah, one of them could be as mature and able as Peter Pan, but most are kids, lack of people skills, untested, with big ego, they are dreamers, credit takers, with all the normal behaviors of, well, kids.
