Great for your resume, but don't expect your ideal role

I have been working at Accenture full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good pay and great chance of getting hired for the US federal subsidiary. This company looks great on a resume, and the benefits (e.g. health, vision, dental, profit-sharing, etc.) are comprehensive. Opportunities to receive recognition for hard work, particularly for young/new employees.

    Cons

Career counselors are hit or miss, and the work-life balance is terrible for any non-executive or anyone without kids. Job security is nice, but that comes with roles you probably didn't want / have no interest in: consultants doing development, developers doing testing, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you hired someone for development, give them a development role. Likewise for testers, consultants, etc.

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than a year

    Pros

great people. good pay. pretty good work life balance

    Cons

projects are very hit or miss. Accenture Federal Services is incredibly bureaucratic and the projects are very long term and boring. Definitely apply to Accenture LLP and not AFS if you are interested in a more fast pace and engaging work environment

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Training Opportunities
    Career Mobility
    Encouraging leadership
    Available senior technical career path
A Network to find projects when one ended

    Cons

Financial growth beyond initial salary is more role change driven.
Each project change is like finding a new job, sometimes challenging

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to somehow change the mindset that everyone in the organization is competing with themselves. Once once gets high enough that attitude relaxes. I found that if I wasn't angling for my next role upgrade, i was able to do my work well.
The senior leadership do a great job in keeping everyone target oriented. It would be great if it percolated into the operational leadership at project level early in their careerr.

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The company's strength lies in their ability to take smart kids fresh out of college and teach them how to be consultants. Generous pto.

    Cons

Highly political environment where talk and outside experience are valued more than good work and loyalty. Experienced hires are starting to dominate the culture and receive privileged treatment, despite typically not being of the same caliber of the college hires.
Respect for work-life balance only applies to people with kids.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Return to your roots. Focus on developing and keeping the top-notch talent that you recruit from college campuses.
The laddering practice rewards back-stabbing and other anti-social behaviour. It's bad for the culture.

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits, extremely smart hard working people, good reputation. Great customer relationship management training ground. Great place to learn to manage conservatively.

    Cons

Internal relationships can trump performance. Technologically an average solution company because technologists are undervalued. More focused on avoiding missteps than delivering exceptional value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Embrace more risk. Update the culture to reflect modern high performing technology delivery methods. Still stuck in old school delivery methodologies. Break out and draw more engineering talent as a result.

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

AMAZING people - great networking within your peer group, client, etc.

    Cons

If you are aligned to federal - less opportunities, less flexibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to look for opportunities to engage AFS resources as the perception is far fewer roles, uninteresting client work and far less flexibility to move within LLP/AFS clients and office locations

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people. The culture is friendly and supportive.
Good pay, perks, and an overall emphasis on internal development.

    Cons

    Upward feedback doesn't exist, period.
Little mobility (horizontal or upwards) unless you get on the good side of a senior manager or senior executive.
Your entire experience and work depend on your project and manager.
Projects tend to be boring and do not fully utilize analyst's skills

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If your subordinates express that they want more responsibility and tasks, give it to them.
Give promotions and ratings based on merit, not on tenure.
Allow for resources to be able to switch to roles that they are interested in and give them opportunities.

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

This is one of the best companies to launch a career. The colleagues and management that you will find at Accenture truly are world-class.
For those that are already well into their career, Accenture is a wonderful place to refine existing skills and build new ones.
Opportunities abound for those that are motivated and willing to put in the effort.

    Cons

Work/Life balance is something that is constantly discussed by staff and management -- the challenge is that no one discusses how to manage that balance. In order to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding consulting environment, you need to determine what this balance is and effectively communicate this to others. WIthout this, you will find that that projects and business development opportunities will eat into all aspects of your life.
