I worked at Access Systems full-time

    Pros

Nice facilities, good location, dedicated staff of hard working individuals, decent comp and benefit plans

    Cons

not in touch with employees, expect too much, some senior staff while outwardly friendly engage in lots of whispering and plotting behind your back. Ownership is greedy and doesn't fully understand some of the intricasies of customer situations. Try to squeeze too much out of too few people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to your management team more and better understand where the contributions are coming from.

I worked at Access Systems full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I work with Access Systems for several years. The pay was good and the benefits were decent. HR was always available to help.

    Cons

The CEO was absent from this company and I don't think really knew what was going on. Upper management was out of touch with what the company needed to do to retain employees and move forward with new contracts. You are not treated as an individual. You felt like there was no forward progression in the company and if you were on a small contract, you were basically invisible in the eyes of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up! Access cannot hold its own if you don't start being proactive with your employees.

I have been working at Access Systems full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

While our team is located at a federal site, the HQ staff works to keep us connected by hosting 2 company wide events each year.
We have great access to the top management through these events.

    Cons

As a small company, personal growth depends on identifying new federal projects as is typical for this type of business.

I have been working at Access Systems

    Pros

good benefit , good IT support
some front line managers are very technical
competitive co workers, and some PM are also good

    Cons

upper managers have little clue on driving company, envisioning new direction.
missing communication and coordination between department/offices over the sea

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

they need to spend more time on R&D not just drive entire work force on customer project.
    need some better appraisal process.

    I worked at Access Systems

    Pros

Good pay relative to the market -- above average; relatively flexible with work schedule; people are friendly and helpful; interesting work

    Cons

Management not particularly concerned with employees as individuals -- you are just billable hours to them; company doesn't seem willing to deal with difficult situations where staffing decisions need to be made; over emphasis on ISO standards and process definition to the detriment of accomplishing meaningful work and process functioning

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really focus on the value of the employees as individuals; bring "leadership" to the organization and not just management to reach the next level

    A mixed bag

    I worked at Access Systems

    Pros

ACCESS is a family friendly company. The company sponsors a lot of events for employees and their families. Most of the staff are very personable, kind and smart. Salaries are competitive. The company places a strong emphasis on quality. There are numerous awards for employees for providing excellent customer service. ACCESS allows employees some flexibility in their working arrangements, though not as much as it did previously. The size of the company gives employees an opportunity to work closely with and form working relationships with senior management. It's a very collegial environment, not a competitive environment -- employees work together, they don't compete with each other.

    Cons

As a medium-sized company graduating from the 8(a) program, ACCESS is not prepared to compete with its peers and larger companies in the full and open marketplace. Compounding the problem is that the company doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up. It still continues to pursue a very wide range of work, but the company is not well positioned to win many of those deals. It continues to pursue low margin work (e.g., administrative support), sacrificing profit for revenue. It has had some past performance problems that limit its ability to compete in some areas, and has problematic relationships with some potential customers. The company cuts corners in a lot of areas to save money, behaving in a "penny wise, pound foolish" manner. The relationship with STG, Inc. (a mentor company owned by the ACCESS CEO's father) is very close, and there is a history of significant STG "participation" in company decision-making and activities. As a result of all of these things, turnover has been high, and morale has been very low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide what ACCESS' future focus should be and target those specific areas with the company's limited resources.
