Pros
A lot of smart, driven and hardworking employees
Exposure to senior level executives who value the ideas and talents of younger employees
Given a great deal of responsibility almost immediately
Ability to take ownership on projects - limited micro-managing
Fast-paced and ever-changing environment
Cons
Employees must be flexible and able to succeed amongst ambiguity
The hours can be long and taxing, but ultimately the work is really rewarding
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to invest in your people and technology in order to sustain Accretive's foothold in the industry
Pros
Pros
1) For those who take responsibility for their results and career, there are practically unlimited opportunities for personal and professional growth.
2) I gain tremendous satisfaction in being part of a team that is improving healthcare in the face of strong headwinds and a general lack of awareness of the challenges that providers face!
3) I see a strong link between my effort, my results, and my resulting compensation...
Cons
Cons
1) Opportunities for personal growth are limited by your own imagination, work ethic and willingness to take responsibility for your own happiness.
2) This is not your father's Fortune 100 company...internal and external processes are under constant development
3) This is not your typical Silicon Valley start-up either...the pressure to market a vision of the future is muted by the desire to deliver results, real value, for our customers
Advice to Senior Management
Advice to Senior Management
Don't change the focus on value delivered to our customers and clients...even while we enhance and grow our internal processes, controls and operating rhythms.
Pros
A lot of smart, driven, hardworking employees coming from several different industries
Exposure to senior level executives who value the ideas and talents of younger employees
Given a great deal of responsibility almost immediately
Fast-paced and ever-changing environment
Ability to take ownership on projects - limited micro-managing
Cons
Employees must be flexible and able to succeed among ambiguity
The hours can be long and taxing, but ultimately the work is rewarding
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to invest in your people and technology in order to sustain Accretive's foothold in the industry
Pros
Beautiful Office Space
Brilliant, talented employees
Great "product" to offer the client
Growing company, always hiring
Plenty of opportunity to learn and gain experience
Cons
High pressure, high stress
Work/Life balance can be poor
Unclear career paths
Slow to promote lower level but quick to hire executives.
Advice to Senior Management
Get feedback from your employees and put it to use.
Pros
Talented staff
Challenging environment
Nimble response to problems
This is THE solution for providers who are losing money to insurance companies
Opportunity for growth and to learn about management, healthcare, etc.
Cons
Long hours
Hard work
Start up culture can means not always predictable
Advice to Senior Management
Additional structure and process would make staff much happier -- we need to create rules and delegate authority. It can be hard to get decisions made and action taken when no one is really sure about precedents.
Pros
Gorgeous office space, wide open floor plan
Office located in downtown Chicago allows for easy access to restaurants and popular places
Smart, talented employees that have the drive to learn and succeed
Opportunity to learn and maybe move around in the company
Vacation time is not accrued or based on seniority, it is given at the start of employment
Good benefits, benefits department needs some work
Cons
People seem to always be putting out fires. Part of the problem is that there isn't enough time in the day to put out the fires, fix the main problem, and prevent it from happening again. Instead of putting so much money into another senior hire, they should be focusing on the details. Hire people that can work the details from the beginning to the end of the process, and avoid dealing with crises all the time. It seems that many "behind the scenes" things are very manual when what they are selling is a technology. The senior people need to be more involved in the details. It would help if they knew what their team was doing to set more realistic expectations on timing and priority.
Work on building trust with the client and employees. Customer service skills are lacking with people inside the organization and with the client, and a little bit of humility goes a long way.
I think that Accretive grew faster than they were prepared for. Aside from office space being tight, there is a severe need for more written policies and procedures. People can't find written information so many things are word-of-mouth. Since communication is not a strong point within the company, word-of-mouth works just about as well as the game of "telephone". The culture is very low structure, but more basic structure is necessary as this company continues to grow.
Advice to Senior Management
Go back to basics and put some written polices and procedures in place. Set expectations and then follow through, starting with senior leaders. Build trust by showing trust.
Pros
Reliable Paycheck every 2 weeks
Coworkers are intelligent and want to succeed
Decent health insurance
Always work to do, keep busy
Cons
Senior management makes consistent empty promises, no follow thru and no acknowlegement, whether it be a hello on a daily basis or a job well done.
Favoritism runs amuck, promotions based on who you know, not if you are qualified
No Communication between management and staff
Advice to Senior Management
Say good morning, acknowledge a job well done, dont make empty promises. If your going to make a lunch schedule, then ALL need to follow, if everything is by the "hand book" except for "case by case scenerios" then change the Hand Book, because EVERYTHING is a case by case scenrio.
Pros
- Talented and hardworking co workers
- The knowledge you gain about the hospital's revenue cycle
- Great location(downtown Kalamazoo)
- Co workers are willing to go the extra mile
Cons
The managers are negative and oppressive. When you want to switch departments for a better chance at success, the managers hold you back by giving negative job recommendations. The environment is setup to make you feel like a caged animal. Promises are often broken. They also frown upon giving the patient 110% in order to resolve there issue, they are about the number of calls no matter if problems are resolved or not which result in alot of errors at the expense of the patient and NO ONE CARES. Managers need to care more about the patients and not treat them like a prison number. Also the environment is very stressful with a low moral. Micromanagement is part of the culture. I kindly left this company on my own recognance
Advice to Senior Management
Stop with the egotistical behavior, speak to your employee's. Give a compliment every now and again. Micromangement will not increase productivity, it will only make for resentful employees. Maybe provide employee's with feed back being good or bad, in order to give them a chance for improvement. Stay consistant, otherwise this place will continue to be like zoo. Also quit allowing managers to hire their kids, sisters, sister in laws, cousins, best friends-this creates unfair advantage, especially when they are not qualified for the job.
Pros
Dental insurance is very affordable, the office space is beautiful, the management is not over burdening, ability to formulate protocol.
Cons
no raises or promotions, no structure or guidelines, no compliance, management is always putting out a fire, no consequences for poor performance.
Advice to Senior Management
reward employees with raises and promotions, be a present leader and show face in the office, offer positive and negative feedback to employees.
Pros
Most people are great to work with.
Cons
Too many high management positions
Advice to Senior Management
Need to make people feel like they're worthwhile to the company - be more in touch with people.
