    Pros

    1. The business is good. (A potential highly grow industry). 2. Young and lots of energy. 3. Have lots of motivated employees.

    Cons

    1. AH hire lots of contractors - which save the benefits cost but cannot get loyalty from contractors. 2. Some managers treat contractor very bad - i.e. overtime without pay, use bad staffing firms (their "preferred" vendors - probably have "preferred" relationship with the management.) 3. Lack of long term plan. 4. Many non-skilled managers in the work place.

    Advice to Management

Need train your managers. Need to get feedbacks form the staffs (even the contractors since some of the groups don't hire any full time).

    Pros

The only thing I can think of is that you did learn about health care insurance and what hospitals and doctors charge and you learn more about how the health care system really works.

    Cons

You are treated like just another body to work you butt off, with no where in site of moving any further. You feel like you go into your box everyday, do not talk to anyone except patients. Then go home, come in in the morning and do it over again. Something needs to change or this company will fail.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to take a long hard look at why they are making the big salaries they are, because the rest of the employees are treated like crap and get paid nothing to work as fast and hard as gthey can with no appreciation. Something needs to change or this company will fail.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

At least half of your hours can be worked from home. Overtime is often available if you would like it.

    Cons

Upward Mobility is Extremely Limited. Welcome to the assembly line. Doctors, prepare to be pushed around by people with only a BA or less.

    Advice to Management

You should at least pretend to care about the doctors you employ. Costs would be reduced if you valued your current physician employees, rather than treating us as disposable and going to the trouble and expense of recruiting and training our replacements. Your physician turnover is unacceptably high in terms of financial cost and physician morale.

I worked at Accretive Health full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Decent pay - Exposure to different areas of healthcare - I cannot think of any other pros but I there is a 20 word minimum, so here it is

    Cons

    - No work/life balance. Expect to put in minimum 60 hour weeks - Minimal change for advancement/salary increase - Constantly putting out fires...management demanding "I want this yesterday" regularly

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge that your "business model" of aggressively harassing patients to pay their bills is not sustainable

I worked at Accretive Health full-time

    Pros

Its a pay check.. I have to use more than 5 words so, um... its a job (not a career)! And THANK GOD for a job!

    Cons

If you are used to some recognition for job well done, recognition of you anniversaries or milestones either verbally or monetarily.. this is NOT the place for you. All attention is paid to the MANY managers they have fresh out of college and not to the employees who have been doing the grunt work and have more practical experience. There is no room for advancement as they would prefer to hire fresh young graduates for positions higher than the biller or follow-up representative. Even if they didn' t hire from outside there is no place for a representative to go. There can only be so many leads and so many managers. Short of that.. there arent any other positions here. There is no internal job board to inform you of the few positions that may be available.. you have to hear it from someone else or ask randomly. There is no training for employees that could possibly advance ones career. There isnt a labor relations department, The HR representative are not knowledgeable or helpful and will only respond to inquiries in which they have initiated. They do not participate in any community or philanthropic associations/organizations. There is no incentives for healthy living, poor work life balance. If this is presented to anyone their excuse will be.. its a new company and still in its infancy stages. The company is at least 4 years old now. That excuse doesn't apply anymore. In summary.. if you like working like a machine with quotas that will not allow for you to have a balance, come on over. They need a LOT of people! But don't expect to be happy as that is not on their list of priorities.

    Advice to Management

Since all of the above issues basically point back to Human Resources.. pick up a book or subscribe to some organizations that give tips on HR and improving employee moral AND IMPLEMENT the findings. I know more about HR and i have not gone to school for it. A company can't last if more than half of the people doing the most work are looking for another job. Good luck and God Speed

    Pros

Excellent employee knowledge, travel opportunities, accelerated industry education

    Cons

Extremely negative and demeaning executive management; penny pinch on their internal staff (example 1. offered a 35%+ raise to "right size me" when I received an offer from a competing company); boiler room environment

    Advice to Management

Increase support staff so people do not assume 2 or more roles. There are growing companies directly competing with you, and good employees will leave for more money and less hours.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

•Lots of responsibility for inexperienced college grads •Chance to manage people early in your career •Chance to work with some really smart people

    Cons

    • Poor feedback from managers • No direction for new employees. Development is hit and miss. If you have a team who is willing to mentor you can learn a lot. Many teams are cutthroat however, and relish chances to throw you under the bus or make you look bad • There is not structure to promotions. They will tell you it is based on performance. It’s not. It is based on how much your site lead is respected and how willing they are to work on your behalf. They do not look at performance or metrics but instead how they feel about you. • Bonuses and raises are haphazard and usually do not come out until April or May • Often hire big talkers who like to boss people around but do very little • Nepotism is rampant. Early promotions, raises and other perks for employees related to upper management

    Advice to Management

Promote based on performance. Stop the nepotism it is really hurting moral. Pay the industry standard.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    A paycheck, that's about it.

    Cons

Seems as if Accretive is preparing to outsource entire operation center to India. There is no actual way to meet management's expectation of work production. There are no bonus programs, incentive or any motivation for lower level employees to meet their metrics except the fear of losing their job. The employees that work pre-registration, insurance verification and customer service are the backbone of the company - there would be no Accretive without us, but we are not respected, appreciated or valued. Micromanagement is rampant and ineffective - we are adults and expect to be treated as thus. Company policy is a "case by case" basis - if you are well-liked by your team lead you will be allowed to break the rules whenever you wish. If you are not a "teachers pet" you are written up for any number of insignificant and unproven offenses. Management is very young and inexperienced with no management or human resource skills. The Kalamazoo office is a complete and utter mess.

    Advice to Management

It would be nice to see team leads and management hired that was not 20 years old and just out of college - more mature people with an old-school work ethic and life experience would be a huge improvement. The management in place now operates exactly like a high school clique or a college sorority, if you are not with the "in" crowd there is little or no chance of promotion or advancement no matter how qualified you might be. Treat your employees with respect, dignity and appreciation instead of intimidation and ridicule. Quit hiring your friends and family that have no skillset to do the job, promote from within the company.

    Pros

Salary Depending on the client/site you can have amazing managers.

    Cons

HR at Corp is awful. They have no clue what is going on out at the sites. Promotions are only given once a year. (If you start in June you have to wait 1.5 years to even have a chance at a promotion).

    Advice to Management

Shed everyone related to the start of the company to save it. Create a more stable growth platform and give better support to your sites with increasing IT resources.
