I have been working at AccuWeather.COM full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Really good people work here! Most of them are pleasant and are always willing to help. Good benefits.

    Cons

Some departments are not appreciated enough. They work hard for little recognition. There are limited growth opportunities. Sometimes things are mismanaged.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at who is the heart and soul of your company and realize their hard work. In the long run, you will have better employees who will stay with the company for years to come.

I worked at AccuWeather.COM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

In general, the coworkers are great. Health benefits were pretty good.

    Cons

Management was completely out of touch, especially at the executive level. Middle managers had very little actual power that acted as mouthpieces for upper management. Legitimate constructive criticism was not tolerated.

Unfortunately, the reason this can continue is the constant influx of Penn State grads desperate for their first real job in a rather small town. It's easy to underappreciate your employees when there are 5 more waiting in line to get a job, any job.

Following several rounds of layoffs, there was actually a note in the in-house newsletter detailing the 7 figure donation made to the university by the company's president to the meteorology department. While this may have all been money not associated with AccuWeather in any way, it's still shockingly insensitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees as the assets they are, not as the next next disposable item to be wrung dry before moving on to the next naive, eager grad.

    Pros

Nice people, until you hit the owners - then all bets are off. Offices were ok. Product was fun and engaging. Training ok. HR ok. Benefits ok. State College, PA is a pretty sleepy little town.

    Cons

the ownership... too old, too rigid, out of date with current trends. Little chance for promotion into the senior ranks. I hear the company is being sold. This will change everything

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at AccuWeather.COM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great service, takes their business very seriously. Efficiency in operations. Good place for kids looking for jobs in college or recent grads.

    Cons

Small company headquartered out of a small town. Low pay for entry level positions. Mostly undergrads and recent graduates from psu. Doesn't keep staff long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees ideas. They are usually well ahead of what's going on in the industry. Give better pay and a career path for ALL employees.

So much potential to be a great company, but so much egotistical, old-school micromanagement, it will never happen

    I have been working at AccuWeather.COM full-time

    Pros

    Nice health benefits. Clean facility.

    Cons

Egotistical executive management that absolutely refuse to plan and communicate strategic thinking. Every project becomes an urgent fire. Below average pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop thinking you're legendary u'd start allowing people with brains, education and experience to make some real changes and improvements. Quit handing out middle-management titles like they are Skittles - way to many "directors" and "vice presidents."

I have been working at AccuWeather.COM full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Flexible work schedule
    - Plenty of opportunities to grow professionally via training and conferences
    - Chance to work with many of the cutting edge companies and technologies
    - Very competitive on salaries and benefits as compared to other IT positions in the area
    - Challenging work environment to meet the growing needs of our major partners

    Cons

    - With so many active projects, it can often been confusing as to which one is the highest priority.
    - Working in a department that has to support systems 24/7 can result in dealing with problems after normal working hours.
-While there have been significant improvements in certain benefits (such as the health coverage), there is still room for improvement in other areas.

I have been working at AccuWeather.COM full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

As stated, for the most part, the coworkers I've had over the years have been great.
    Recognizable company for a resume.
    Decent entry-level stepping stone.

    Cons

    Poor communication company-wide.
Below median pay for mid-level employees.
Middle management completely inconsequential, executive level micromanages.
Job security is nil due to nearby Penn State. Constant crops of new grads looking for any work will accept low salaries.
Pay freeze amidst horn tooting of LARGE donation by president to have new Penn State weather center named after him.
Managers with little to no background in what they are managing.
    Large-scale turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you hire excellent employees, pay them what they deserve and allow them to improve the company. Do not chase them away for not toeing the line to outdated ideas.

I have been working at AccuWeather.COM

    Pros

AccuWeather can be a place that allows flexibility with family and as long as the work gets completed correctly and on time few people complain

    Cons

Theft. Theft of lunches. Come on! Is it necessary to eat others food. We are all struggling with bills. There wouldn't be as many lunches brought in if there was more money in our pockets.

    I have been working at AccuWeather.COM full-time

    Pros

    Looks great on a resume
    Plenty opportunities for mandatory overtime
Helps improve math skills by having to check every single pay check
You're co-workers are actually wonderful people

    Cons

Every department head has no business being in their position. Most of them have completely unrelated school backgrounds and work backgrounds. Because of this many departments were failing misterably at their tasks. Problems resulting from poor leadership were 99% of the time shoved off and blamed on people below the managers. Pay was the ABSOLUTE WORST. If you're looking for good resume experience, look at AccuWeather. If you're looking for a career, this is definately not the place for you. You'll also notice a lot of favoritism between managers and employees they are dating within AccuWeather. Very cheap company, the benefits are terrible, you better bring cash to all company gatherings because you'll be buying your own beverages. Not that it's a major issue but my coworkers and I had a few drinks, maybe 3-4 each tops at the Christmas party, well that ran us $30. They put a raise freeze out on the 10cent a year raises and the owner came in with a brand new $110,000 Mercedes a few days later.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to the Management would be to get rid of them and replace them with more qualified people (the managers that is). Also pay people salaries and wages for the current 2012, not 1932.
